    S80 questions.

Never been a big fan of the first gen s80 as the looks at the back are bit dodgy, but noticed a nice one the other day on nebs and it looked quite nice. So, knowing the earlier ones had a few issues, i was wondering if the later (2003>2006) version were any better.

    Mainly

1)Do they have a strong autobox?
2)How many gears do they have?
3)Can you get more power out of the t6 with simple mods?
4)Would the engine still be reliable after some tweaking (i'm sure it would be as they're are plenty of cars out there using it.)
    5)Are they RWD?

I could find these out on google, but i prefer to ask on here.

    1) I believe the later 6 speeds are stronger than the 5 speed.
    2) See 1
    3) You could probably remap it, to up boost, but the power will be limited more by the autobox, too much power and the 'box will lunch itself.
    4) As long as they're sensible mods there should be no problem with reliability.
    5) No, it's FWD.

If you can find one, they put the V8 in the S80.

I drive Benny's every so often. (Though its a manual and a Diesel).

Its a nice car, just don't feel you get the "step up" from S60 to S80 that you get from BMW 3 to 5 series.

Sure the T6 - auto in the XC90 is very best avoided .

The gear box I think is A GM box the same which is best to avoid if I was you.

If it's the tf80sc then don't worry so much about the box as they are tons better than the old ones, seen them doing 200k that's on the v8 xc90!

Mines on 145k and still fine, did a flush and adaptation (very easy to do) and that's about it. Same box used in the polestar, gm and earlier boxes are rubbish.

I wonder how many clutches / flywheels and large labour charges non autos go through to get to 200k.

If you can afford it go for the later shape or 05 up, make sure gearbox number starts 06j as these have the latest valve body, which are also much much better.

Wow S80 V8 Autotrader... one result!

    Rare care, lovely engine too

As for the lump, surely if Noble can shove it in an M600 and shed fettle it to 650hp there's some work that can be done...
Arguing is pointless....she may not be right but she's never wrong

Tell her a remap is just having your satnav updated.....

SERIOUSLY tempting fate here, but my 4 speed gaytronic is still going strong at 130k.

Although I only occasionally give it a load of stick... Have you seen how many yards T6s do to the gallon!!

4spd? Is that one of the early s80s?

    Yeah.

Mine's a 52 plate, so one of the last I think before they changed to the 5 speed. But a 2.9 as opposed to the earlier 2.8 with the same power. Bit of a weird one.

They are reasonably quick to be honest, but feel completely different to a T5 as there is absolutely no lag whatsoever on account of the two tiny turbos.

They only run about 4psi... Aww, bless!

I'm dying to get it mapped, but don't fancy changing the 'box every weekend!

You can just manual convert these with any m56 or 66 box. But isn't the 4sp the gm box

Yeah, the 4 speed is the GM 'box I think.

I didn't think you could really convert the 6 pots, on account of there being zero space for a gearbox that's not made of chocolate!
