Do I take the standard gear knob off? I've tried a few times now & other than cut it off I'm really struggling here.
I can't even get the bottom collar off it without forcing it. Seems a shame to wreck it as it's in pretty good condition if plastic looking like leather is your thing.
I cut the wrecked knob from the bullion & presumed it had been glued on, now I think by volvo??
Any help or am I getting the burning gear out?

Have you got the gaiter off it yet?

You need to slide a round piece of pipe up the gearstick and under the knob, like two halves of a copper pipe

2 small screwdrivers to lift the tabs. Takes 2 minutes once the gaiter is out the way.

Right, so I have to take the gaitor off first?
I take it the collar part is fixed to the knob itself?
So 2 halves of a piece of pipe & tap it up?

The gaiter wrestles off after some swearing and levering. You're left with the knob. There's a plastic collar with a half-inch tab on each side. Wedge a small screwdriver into the side of each tab and lever it outward.
The knob will just pull off.

Be careful not to drop the two locking shims inside the knob when you remove it.

So tonight's jobs consist of blanking plate & gear knob. Sounds like I will be filling the swear jar! Lol
