    quick questions about the 16t

Hi all, what is a 16t like at holding 24psi from say 3000-5000rpm? And when on your petrol cars does it start spooling?

    Cheers

Tbh no tdo4 wants to be run at that constant and I doubt many would keep that pressure up 16t are very good at quickly spooling and will hold 18psi

Bugger, I was hoping they wouldn't mind at least 20psi. But do you think as mine is a derv, so it would all be running cooler anyway, that it wouldn't mind so much?

The only reason I'm asking is owens reckon a td04 is my easiest option as it's a T3 flange and more or less the same exhaust flange. Although they did suggest I get one of their special 19t's but that's out of budget.

Mine holds at just over 20psi right through 4th gear but I wouldn't do it for more than a quick squirt - it's got 212k on it after all.

Spoolup is pretty quick with the right mapping...

The delay after the gear change is just me faffing about

Hmmm, this is encouraging and I think that as my Peak power is 4650rpm I may be ok with a 16t. After all 20psi at 2500-4500rpm is a bit less strain on a turbo than at the rpm's you guys are doing in your petrols I'm sure.

Think your right, but it's not a question of if I can run at that boost level as I have been using 1.7-1.8bar for sometime but I need a more efficient turbo than the kkk k14. Unfortunately this unit, although capable of high pressure at low revs, it can't hold pressure as it causes Extremely high emp. This on a diesel means high egt's and thus lots of black smoke as the afr drops below 16:1! Now ideally I need a freer flowing turbo than the standard unit purely to be able to keep up an afr of 18-20:1 (relatively smoke free), by keeping the emp at no more than 1 bar above map.

    I like your logic mate.

The 16t is a tough little blower too.

Thought my logic only made sense to me lol, awesome!

Well I think I will try a 16t first (as it's a fairly cheap option), then go from there, it's got two choices after all.

The 16T is a.great little turbo in my view, spools up really quickly and holds long enough for normal circumstances, I run one on my daily auto

All I have to say is holset for your application mate .most diesels don't have water cooling on the turbo just oil.

That reminds me, I was surprised to note that the first generation D5 only has 10nm torque more than the T5. I expected the D5 to have far more torque than that given that it's a diesel. Just goes to show how 'torquey' the T5's are!

Very true, and a holset (hx25 or 30) is still an option. But it's no problem fitting a water cooled though, only a bit of plumbing after all!
