    Unhappy Ouch!!

Had me S60 D5 booked in at Avalon Wellingborough for a new intercooler. Now there has been a loud rattle on tickover for a while but I had got used to it. Turns out it's the clutch on the alternator knackered and it could have thrown the belt at any time so that's a new alternator, belt and ancillaries. Then the brake pad grinding noise that suddenly appeared yesterday which I hoped would be just pads turns out to be offside rear calliper siezed so needs pads, discs and new calliper!! So a £400 bill has gone to over a grand!!

I have a pair of calipers for pre facelift cars here if you want one - yours for postage.

Bummer about the repair bill but you'll feel better once you've driven it for a bit

Thanks but it's in being done and need it back for work, I'll just have to bite the bullet. Hopefully with a new intercooler it should shift a bit quicker

Yeah, unfortunately they can bite the wallet hard when they go wrong.

I can't complain really, I'm doing over a 1000 miles a week in it atm and this is the first money I've spent. I only paid 1200 quid for it and it's just turned 158k miles so it's worth spending some money and giving it some love. I intend to keep it for a few years yet so bit by bit I'll get on top of everything maintenance wise, get a remap and enjoy

Have they said why they can't change the clutch on the alternator , it's called a freewheeling pulley.
