    Exclamation T5 Rough 'start-up'

I found once the battery has been disconnected from the T5 it throws a hissy-fit when I reconnect the battery and restart the car. Interestingly, it now does it on just about every cold start since I've started disconnecting the battery, even if I start it having left the battery connected since the last run. Odd, and it seems ok once it's warmed up.

I'm going to get Vida next pay day and hook it up to see if it throws any light on the problem but I'm pointing my finger at the front O2 sensor or MAF at the moment.....

If you haven't used it for a while then it'll sound rough as the hydraulic tappets will have drained, and they'll need a few seconds to refill with oil.

Each time you disconnect the Battery James, your confusing the car Alarm/Immobilizer, that's why, in your vid, the car immediately started then stalled on the first key turn.
The way to prevent that from happening is after you've reconnected the battery (with the key in pos. II of course) you must first switch off and remove key. Exit vehicle, lock car with remote and wait 30 seconds, then unlock car. Start vehicle as normal and it won't stall on first key turn nor will it throw an occasional 'Alarm system service' warning.

I'm with Silverhorse thou on this one. You shouldn't be disconnecting the battery on the car for anything other than essential maintenance that requires battery disconnection. It's not good for the cars sensitive electrics.

Also, if you've disconnected the battery for any length of time then the cars ECM's will have lost their 'learned' parameters for fuel, MAF, O2, Air temp etc etc, so the car will start on 'stock' settings. Unless you've replaced all the sensors on the car, then due to it's age and mileage - they won't be functioning 100%, so I would expect a little fluctuation on cold start.
It should even it's self out once the ECM has learned the new readings from it's connected sensors and made any adjustments accordingly and then drive normal.

If you insist on going any further with this then you'll need to start another thread. AFAIK, there's nowt wrong other than you keep mucking about with it.

The obvious answer is sat there, staring you in the face James.
    It's the air filter.
Pulling the battery for an extended period resets all the adaptations in the ECU. When you reconnect the battery and start the car, it's running from a default setup which expects (among other things) to see a particular flow rate from the MAF. You have a high flow air filter fitted and the ECU will be seeing a different flow rate to what it's used to.
If you drive the car for 10 minutes and park it (e.g. go shopping for an hour), does it behave fine when you drive home? I bet it does - that's the ECU adapting to the different airflow.
Mine did the same when I had it remapped. I had that crappy Blitz sonic air filter on and it ran like a bag of crap. Same when I removed the filter on the rollers, same when I fitted the stainless filter.

There's nowt wrong with the car James, it's just spitting it's dummy because it spotted something it wasn't expecting.

Interestingly it stalled and spluttered today on start-up, despite being connected as normal for 3 days. Can't wait to see what Vida flags up.
