I hate being in a hot car so could never have a one that doesn't have working aircon and i don't know how anyone can say winding the windows down is just the same. Being stuck in traffic with no a/c is not enjoyable and neither is driving on the motorway and having to have the windows down.

Came back from the east coast on friday and the further we got from the coast the hotter it got. It went from 24c to 29c, but did we notice in the car, not a chance.

I could live without any other "luxury" on a car, but not a/c.

For some strange reason all the foibles on the P2 are blamed on Ford, although it was designed long before Ford owned Volvo. It does get boring reminding the people of this fact, but it's not Ford's fault, but what does get a bit more boring is James (T5) complaining that he has no money, but then wanting to spend money he doesn't have on things he doesn't need.

James, save your money for your T5, and use the D5 as it is, a banger.

These thread are starting to get boring.

If James wants to spend money he hasn't got on a car that he brought to save money let him and stop banging on about it.

Just to add a useless fact...

Below 45-50 mph it's better on fuel to have the window open. After that, AC costs you less than the drag caused buy having the window open.

That was not only proved when Mythbusters revisited that particular myth but by several motoring websites, 5th gear and I've tested it myself on all the AC equipped cars I've owned.

The Starlet hasn't been a pleasant place to be this weekend, regardless of the fact I can jack the seat up and drive with my head out of the sunroof

Might be better on fuel but in a hot country I'd rather have the AC!

    Still hot here...

Thanks Ian, are you referring to the actual radiator or the Condenser at the front?

Having your windows open doesn't have the same effect as having air con on though. Noisy buffeting wind, can't hear the stereo properly etc etc. Its funny talking about fuel economy when the majority of us on here are driving cars with big engines and poor economy to start with lol. Is wasting another mpg or two on fuel really a big issue?
The replys to this thread were about how stupid James is to want to prioritise wasting money he hasn't got on a job which should be well down his list.

From what I've seen with the sweed, it's less than 1mpg loss around town with the AC on - barely worth the fuss.

As for the subject of weather or not James should be wasting money on a second car... I feel compelled to say nothing and stay out of it.

Nice to see the M making an appearance at the bottom of your posts again Mike
