If Frankie wants any advice on how to pick a decent car or maintaining one properly, I'll make an allowance and give him some pointers. I'm feeling generous today lol.

James what you do is up to you but if I got a £300 car, I wouldn't put money into it apart from what is needed to keep it running, even then if the bill is more than £200 I'd scrap it and look for a new scrap yard dodger. Also you got the car for the fuel economy the ac not working actually improves your economy just wind the window down.

Winding the windows down increases drag and wastes fuel.

Mythbusters tested it & it doesn't use as much fuel as aircon does. I've had 2 cars now with aircon, neither have worked & prefer to open the sunroof/windows

Air con uses up to 10% of the engines power,so either way you'll be wasting fuel, difference is, winding the windows down won't cost you a thing, repairing the A/C will, so as wrong as it sounds, Frankie was talking sense.

If you decide to change the condensor, it's highly recommended that you change the receiver drier at the same time (may invalidate the condensor warranty if you don't), they're cheap at £15. The receiver drier is attached to the condensor so no extra work involved.

Thanks Steve, I'll be buying these on pay day.
