Tyres on Volans - what size

    Hey
I'm just having my spare set of Volans refurbished and I'll be putting new tyres on them when they are done, but, the set on the car at the moment are 205/45/17's, yet the other set are not. Most searches on the internet say that the 205/45 is the manufactures size but a bunch of people run 215 some even 225 but then have scrubbing.

What do you run and what would you recommend? Its on Pirelli's at the moment - best tyre for them or do you use something else?

    Thanks

I run 205-45-17 Pirelli P Zero, and i cant fault them, they are hard wearing and grip very well, if you are not driving like a NOB, ( im not implying that you do) but some on here do

If you want to go a bit wider (225) then there is a good tyre by Syron (£56) that is very sticky but wear quickly, and have heard nothing but good reports from them.

Last tyre change time I went from 215/40 to 215/45 in the attempt to give the car and myself a bit of an easier time. It rides a lot better now (standard suspension), but a true test would have been to get the new Dunlops in the old size Falkens, but I'm happy with choice as it stands even with the loss of aesthetics.

205/45 17 was the factory fit tyre size on an 850R.

I run 215/40/17 Yokohama Parada Spec 2s on my Volans.

Fantastic tyre, highly recommend them. Really great normal day to day running, last well, very sticky on track days, and even good in the snow as The Flying Moose can attest to.

Volans and Titans both had 205/45/17 as the standard size.

People here commonly replace them with 215/45/15, however they then complain about the tyre rubbing on the guard liners with a little lower ride height like you'd find on an 850R.
215/40/17 is a nice fit too and is short enough in the sidewall that it wont rub like the 215/45/17

Tyre widths and sidewall heights also differ between manufacturers.
eg. a Dunlop tyre is usually a little narrower than a Yokohama in size size.

From a glance 215/40/17 is tough to spot as out of the ordinary on a Titan or Volan but I can spot a 215/45/17 on a Titan or Volan from a way back - they just look too big for the wheel.

I had 215/45x17 UniRoyal RainSport 2s on my 850R and never had any issues.

Interesting. Maybe a smaller sized 215/45?
    What's the ride height like?

on the V70, standard tyre size for R models with 17" wheels such as Comets is 215/45/17. Front guard and guard liners are a different internal shape so no rubbing with that tyre size.

I've got 215/40/17's on mine and they suit the wheel better for looks than the 205's. They don't rub either. It's worth noting that Volans are the widest factory fitted alloy to have been fitted to an 850 so stepping up slightly on width isn't a problem
