    What's the difference...

Between all the various five cylinder turbo models in the P2 V70/S60?

There's the 2.3 T5, the 2.4T and the 2.5T if I read all the ads right, with power ranging from 200-250bhp. Obviously you have different capacities and outputs, but I'm just curious about the differences.

In context, I currently have an '03 D5 manual. It a good car, seems well equipped (leather, xenons, CD changer, electric seats, folding mirrors), but I'm debating whether to chop it in for a turbocharged petrol model. I don't really want to sell it and end up with something that's much worse-off equipment wise than my D5, but I do hanker after a petrol engine, as I'm not a big diesel fan. The D5 is good as diesels go, but I still prefer petrol power.

Obviously the T5 is quickest out of the box, but they all seem to be automatic, which is a big no-no for me. My old 850 T-5 was auto and I don't really want to go down that road again. I've noticed that there seems to be a few manual 2.4/2.5T cars about and wondered what kind of alternative these would make. I would be considering modifying anyway, so if a modified 2.4/2.5 is just as good as a T5, then I might as well broaden my horizons if I do start looking seriously for a petrol car.

Which is the stronger engine? How many of the T5 tweaks are transferrable to a 2.4/2.5T? I suppose my question is, if I bought a non-T5, would there be any disadvantages?

I appreciate that this is probably a totally retarded question, but I'm not an expert on all the different models, so please humour me and my lack of knowledge!

Just for the specs, page linked below is good reference

    http://www.wothrline.com/main/main_e...erformance.htm

click on engine data & give it a couple of secs to load up

So from the ones you listed:

    2.3 T5 is the B5234T3 with 16T turbo
    2.4 T5 is the B5244T5 with K24 turbo
    2.5T is the B5254T2 with 14T turbo

also there's the 2.5 with K24 turbo in the R's, 300 hp or thereabouts

Thanks for that, will give it a read.

Sorry, I should have clarified, when referring to the 2.4T I meant the 200bhp one, not the facelift T5. I'd be looking at cars from 2000-2004, not facelift ones.

Budget. I have other cars that demand more of my money. I actually quite like the pre-facelift with its grey bumper trims etc too.

    I wouldn't want a 2.0 to be honest.

I was just curious about whether, once you started modifying, how much difference there was between a 2.3 T5 and a 2.4/2.5T.

The only reason for this question is the lack of manual T5s for sale anywhere.

imo your best option is an facelift t5 ex plodder
you get the best engine block, twin vvt, m66, k24
more reliable too and theres a lot nicer lil touches to be found...
fwiw the 2.5 is seen as the weakest pic due to common for cracking cylinder liners
