Thumbs up 'Alarm System Service Required'

As title states, this message has come on my dash the last few days, along with DTC for UEM0004, which is Upper Electronic Module - Siren.

So a quick and simple test:

    Open drivers door window.
    Close door and lock vehicle.
Wait until deadlocks activate (you'll hear a quiet secondary lock engage in the door)
Reach into the car and pull the bonnet release.

The alarm should immediately go off, as it did in my case, Indicators should all be flashing. If you cannot hear the siren but your indicators are flashing then the Siren needs replacing.
Unlock car to disable alarm and then note the dash LED will be blinking quickly to tell you the alarm was triggered.

I have now cleared DTC's and ordered a new alarm siren from Volvo which I'll collect tomorrow and fit.

    Price is £166 retail.

Easy fix to: Jack car on right side front. Remove wheel. Pull down wheel arch liner to access alarm siren just above washer bottle. No software required, just remove old unit and fit new.

It's less effort to lock the car with the fob, wait for the deadlock, unlock it with the key and open the door (some of us are too tubby to lean in the windows and pull the bonnet release lol).

Lee I know your car was off the road for sometime which can let the alarm siren battery run down ,but it might / should recharge the siren battery when the cars been used, but if it's the original silent module there's a good chance it's near the end of its life.

Car was kept on a smart charger and battery voltage never went lower than 13.7v as I knew that the car battery would discharge if not used.
The problems started within two days of finishing fitting the IC.

    Here's some pictures:

.....along with 'Alarm system service required' in the DIM.

    Locate old siren. Unplug unit.

Grind off the head of the security bolt, enough so you can get a purchase on it and unscrew it. It's a M6 thread.

Fit new siren and replace security bolt with M6 short bolt.

Refit wheel arch liner, clear DTC and test Siren.
Mine is now much, much louder than it was before.

Total time was about two hours. Including jacking up car, wheel removal and drilling out old rivets for wheel arch liner.
