threaded bar for DIY manifold studs?

    Hi,

I've taken off my exhaust manifold to see where oil is coming from (see other thread). However all the studs came out with the nuts, and the nuts are seized on the studs. Ideally i need a new set of studs. Problem is, it's the weekend and I need to get this back together today ideally.

If I buy some threaded rod from B&Q could that be used as studs ? ... or is it completely the wrong type of metal?

    Cheers for any advice.

    C

moot point now as have re used old studs (as bolts) . Held gaskets in place on the manifold using instant gasket in corners of each one.

I temporarily used threaded bar to act as studs to mount the manifold, then removed them in favour of the old studs.

    Seems to be OK.

Don't even think about using threaded rod.

You can soak the nuts on the studs in penetrating oil and then get 2 other nuts lock them together on the stud & remove the nut. You can use the locking nut technique to wind the studs back in. I bought new copper flashed nuts when refitting.
