Wasn't legal speed 55 mph then in the states? A late 940 turbo is a better starting point for modding though!

Something to do with the advertising standards agency not wanting to promote fast driving.
Last notable banned advert was the GT86 which was a cartoon..

Something amiss with those adverts as i had a 1988 740 Turbo Intercooler and they are only 185bhp as standard even with the bleed valve the psi will only go to 13 `cos of the cutout!

As it says in this read about 8secs to 60 is about right.

Also they don`t tell you that you will only get about 23mpg max. whatever the way you drive!!............at least the 5 pot will get less thirsty the slower you drive.

The adverts are American, and I believe their turbos had more power, something to do with the LHD installation I believe.

The main 740/940 we never got was the 16v turbo because of the right hand drive problem .the steering rack and break servo too.and they had over 200bhp stock and a 2litre too.500bhp engine stock with a better turbo and standalone .

740s have more status than the 940s, getting more modern ckassic.
940s are just cheap tunable rwd cars.

Motronic crap in 740s not very adaptable......best combo would be late 940 squirter block running lh2.4 in 740.

Those old 760 turbos did fly with the T3 and A cam much better than the tiny thing they stuck on the 940 with the weak T cam.

The 4 pots do better on fuel than the 850/P1 70 T5's when driven gentle but do drink when booted hard. The normally do good 30MPG but can do better, mixed driving tend to be around 25
