    Volvo/Yamaha V8 engine modifications.

Doing some random dreaming recently... Anyone know where you can get the specs of performance upgrades to turn the V8 4.4 XC90 engine into a Noble M600 equivalent monster??

I know we are talking modified twin turbos etc and the costs would be astronomical, but is must be possible to get a starting point..

Did they change the pistons/cams/crank? Is the block reinforced? Anyone surf the crazy Swedish sites to find someone who has already done it?

bore & stroke are the same (94mm x 79.5mm), but compression ratio is lowered from 10.4:1 to 9.5:1 on the Noble. It still keeps the 60degree V between cylinders so looks like all the external casing is standard

i couldn't find any spec on the turbo's, apart from there twin Garrett & run to a max of 1.0bar in race mode

That engine was mated to an M66 on the S60 for the brief period it was made.

well, logic would say that if you can fit an M66 onto an 850 engine, then it should be possible to fit an m56 onto the V8

But would the V8 fit in place of the rear seats of an 850... now there's a question

That doesn't mean it was a standard M66 tho. 850 TDi's use the M56, but it's got a special bell housing to fit the Audi engine

Wow didn't realise the XC lump was a 60 degree Vee, that's quite unusual for an eight they're usually 90 degree with the six's usually being 60. I'm guessing they didn't need to open the vee up so much originally as they had the room under the bonnet (height).

I expect it's because they had to fit the block transversely in a slot originally designed for a piddly little 5-pot
