Bevel Gear -Warranty won't pay out

Just an update Volvo contacted my warranty company and they won't pay out as the the whole component needs to complete fail, and no doubt leave me stranded on the side of the road, oh well it's only money, I was planning on a diet, looks like bread and water for me over the next couple of months lol.

Which warranty company? On a previous car I was once told my turbo wasn't covered as it was an exhaust component. As slippery and devious as.... an insurance company doing anything not to pay out? Makes my blood boil.

The thing is even with a total failure, which it sounds as if you've had, you won't be left stranded, you'll just have a FWD car instead of an AWD car.

and if it does fail, the warranty company probably will try and say, you should have got the awd system serviced, as you already new it was failing by trying to claim for it, before it finally failed....if you get what I mean, there all a bit slippery like that

I new they would try and wriggle out of it, the thing is I could have delayed getting the work done until it would fail completely, but taking on board that I would still have front wheel drive, but by that time the warranty would have run out!, I think in this I have learnt some lessons especially in relation to buying a performance car, which I let slip really in that I presumed being low mileage the car would be ok, but the importance of proper service history is imperative, it was only through the volvo service last week, things like wrong oil filters fitted, LeeT5 picked up wrong coolant used, probably has had in its history wrong oil, spark plugs knackered and probably not changed within services it has had. The Volvo garage did mention that if it had had full volvo or volvo specialist service history some of these issues may have been preventable, but we will never no. Anyway probably some good do's and dont's to pass on in the future to anybody wanting an R, but the car seems to go much better after the service and I have better peace of mind, and will probably be even smoother with angle gear done.

It's a hard lesson to learn mate, but I'd still fight them on the warranty claim.

As Steve has said, some hard lessons, but don't give up on the warranty claim, some dogged determination and it may bare some financial fruits, they may be just seeing if they can get you to go away, just by fobbing you off

Well i have put a large dent in the list this week. So breakdown of completed:-
    1) Knocking issue -Bevel Gear replaced today £1500.00
    2) 9 year Service with new spark plugs, changed coolant, oils, filters, fluids + new fuel cap hinge, lower gearbox torque bush and health check £759.00 on Monday
    3) headlight cover was in bowls of the car so was replaced
    4) Bonnet strut believe or not on the facelift model they removed it, volvo being penny pushers
    5) Timing, they said it was fine and ok, but there is still that issue with rattle on start up when hot and not quite picking up, a gremlin for another time.
    6) Reversing light was a loose connection

    Advisories for another time
    1) Top Mounts
    2) Slight misting on front shocks
    3) slight oil from behind steering rack
    4) discs on front lipped, have a quote to do this £225.00

So with this i can plan towards putting the things right. Tyres and Brakes probably for this year and another 12k service is all i want to be able pay out if i ca help it

I did notice my 2005 S60R had two ,but the 2006 V70R only has one even the hinge doesn't have the ball riveted into it.

Just as quick note on the Bevel gear in conversations with the Service Guy half way through the install it came to light the £1500.00 covered for a volvo refurbished unit, if it was brand new costs would have been over 2K, i was a bit miffed they did say this when they quoted, not much i can do now it does come with 12 months warranty

If I were you, I'd retro fit a strut on the bonnet. Makes it much more stable.
Parts will be available at dealer including the ball joint mounting. Struts both sides are identical.

Too late Harvey...I noted they were BOTH already broken.

Options are: Buy a new Alloy one and a V-clamp and fit OR buy a cheaper plastic one (that actually swells under boost ) and be very careful not to break it in future. I know what I'd do!

If the earlier V band pipe is fitted, won't it have to be connected to the earlier V band turbo?
