    Slight Knocking Sound

I am getting slight knocking side when i pull away in first, it doesn't happen all the time, i think at low speeds over some bumps in road, doesn't seem to be in changing gears though, maybe slightly from 1st to 2nd, i know that bushes and things will have to replaced at some point, due to age of the car, I did have it recently checked over and the feedback was that everything seemed pretty tight, wondered if anybody had any clues as to what it might be

Front drive shaft bolts , are a favourite for clicking. Or Axle ping.
Easy fix just pull off the front wheels center caps ( the ones with the volvo logo on )you will find a bolt in the center just make sure it not loose ,don't swing on it as it's a m8 thread bolt.

Strut top bearings and/or spring seats is my guess, it happened on mine before they were changed. Could also be lower ball joints, worn drop links or a worn control arm bushing.

Terry, the drive shaft bolts are £3.00 from the main stealer, or if you're like me and don't mind asking for a discount you'll get them for around £2.50 each. 14mm socket spanner to remove and refit. Flip the center cap off the wheel and you'll see it, you can leave the wheels on too.

Thanks folks, I will give the drive shaft bolts a go and change them, seems for the sake of less than a tenner worth changing. Thanks again for the advice from you all

I'll have a look for you when you visit Monday if you want.
You won't be able to order the bolts (for XC90) until Monday, unless you collected Saturday morning, but you could order them at Lipscomb Volvo near me first thing Monday then pick em up at lunch time. Then bring em to mine and we'll fit.
They will need torquing up so that won't be a problem.

Lipscomb parts dept phone number is 0845 338 9904.
Order them before 10am and you can pick up after lunch.
The dealer is about 5 miles from my house.

Thanks Lee, so I just ask for XC90 drive shaft bolts, I guess these are uprated, yes I will try and make this happen, and thanks for the offer of fitting them that's great, hopefully can tick another issue off the list.

I guess it's the XC90 bolts which are the up rated ones, sorry for being such a novice., but I am getting better I did by a new socket set today, so 10 out of 10 for effort lol.

Not realy uprated in my opinion. They are still stretch bolts. High tensile is the way to go.

You need to ask for part# 30714142 and you want two.
They are £15.20 ea plus vat (not £3.00 James) so not cheap but they will permenantly fix your 'axle ping' and if it is that, then you won't hear the clicking anymore.
Basically, the newer, updated bolts have huge rubber tapered dampers that prevent the bolts working loose once fitted. I fitted mine 3 years ago and never had a problem since.

    See you Monday afternoon!

I paid £2.50 each for the genuine item at the Main Dealers, would you like to see my invoice as proof? The axle bolts are stretch bolts so unless you're paying circa £15 a piece for some non-stretch version then you're being ripped off silly because they're single use otherwise.

And by the way Lee, my standard bolts that cost me £2.50 have also sorted out my axle ping but for a fraction of the cost you paid for your 'uprated' part.

I never said they were 'uprated' I said they were updated! When I removed my old bolts, the new ones looked completely different.

I don't care what bolt you used to fit on your car, the part number I listed is correct and is for the XC90 05> axle bolt, listed on Vida.
Volvo supplied them and they are correct and fit 2003 - 2007 V70R and that's all I was interested in. Even when I ordered them the parts guy said they're not cheap - hey ho, such is life!

You are also right in that they are stretch bolts and also have thread lock applied.

Doesn't mean I've been ripped off, just means I've got the correct bolt fitted and you haven't.
I'll show you my invoice if you like.

I have got the right bolts fitted to my car Lee, they came from the Volvo dealer but you're obviously your arrogance is telling you to buy these more expensive ones because you think you know better than the manufacturer who made the car.
