    V70 phase III clean up

Being without my own Volvo and as part of quite a rare occasion I had chance to clean a newer Volvo today. The reason I say rare is because it's usually in use somewhere in or out of the Essex area. This means it rarely gets cleaned, until today that is. I'm not going to lie there were several points when I felt the "why did I bother starting this". The bug splats were well and truly baked on and the wheels were a mess with brake dust. There's a lot to be said to those who think cleaning a car regularly is a time wasting event. Fortunately, despite not being cleaned for around 5 months there doesn't appear to be any paintwork damage and once I'd removed the mud, dust and sawdust from the interior that also came up very well. Unfortunately I didn't get any before shots but did manage to get a couple of after shots.

Having cleaned and driven the car I have to say these phase 3 V70's are a lovely car, some really nice styling lines and design to them. Also with this one being the 205 hp D5 in R design spec means it boasts a stiffer and lower suspension set up with a stiffer steering setup and also it's variable rate dependant on speed... It's also got a very nice soft leather seat trim and blue anodised clocks so being inside looking out is as nice as being outside looking in. The twin turbo 5 pot diesel is audible, but in a nice way, and it's fair to say it's got a nice turn of speed with very useable low down acceleration, and for a standard car, which at a guess must weigh around 17-1800kgs it handles and stops well to.

Oh and the wheel colour was my idea, they were originally silver...

Nice, I've had a good look around Blackdogs one, and they are lovely cars, just a shame they didn't do an R version.

Agreed, although the R would have to be quite a bit different to the R design to differentiate it as the phase 2 was quite bland when compared to an R in the same phase. Personally I think a polestar model would be the way forward in rebel blue, with the T6 lump under the bonnet and heavily fettled

Nice looking car. Steve's (Blackdogs) remapped d5 goes very well on the 1/4mile, low to mid 15's.

I love the shape of these, so well designed, particularly the interior, that 2 tone interior is just pure lush. My one and only problem with the modern day Volvos is this. If I buy for fuel condumption and im looking to stay around the same as my current D5 S80 I have to buy a D3. I don't want no D3 badge and yes its all badge snobbery lol.

Oh and the remap. Not a polestar. 235+BHP but more importantly 538 Nm torque.

Now it's run in with 54k on the clock hoping to break into the 14's at North Weald.

All that and 41ish to the gallon (averaged over 35k miles)

Not too bad for a diesel auto me thinks.

Certainly clocked the miles up since that initial drive from the Dick Turpin, at the time I think you'd only done around 1,500 miles ish? Be good to see what it performs like now the edges are smoothed and it's on top form

Certainly have. It's also a different car. Chopped the old one in with about 30k on it and put 35k on this one.

Oh fair enough, tbh I thought it was strange when you said it wasn't a Polestar upgrade... I though oh he's had it mapped again .. Lol
