    RPM Trigger switch

Ok, I'm trying to set up a 2 stage boost system, I thought I had it sussed, but I'm afraid not, what I need is some means of triggering a solenoid when the engine hits a certain rpm, I tried to use a shift light to do it but it doesn't have the power to switch the relay, so over to you lot, put your thinking caps on.

Small photocell to detect the shift light?

    only joking

relay off the shift light to switch the solenoid directly from the battery

This is what I bought the Blitz SBC for, although at the moment I am only running 1 set value. The blitz allows either speed or rpm based boost control.

Sorted I think, I'll use this relay (triggered off the shift light)to trigger the bigger relay:

So you're going to get the shift light to trigger a relay, to trigger a relay, to trigger a solenoid, glad you're keeping it simple.

i recon I can get a working system for less than £40, I have a greddy ebc, but I didn't like the way it modulated the boost, and it needs a degree in science to set the bloody thing up...lol

Michael Caine was dangling off the edge of a ledge though, Colin does it because he likes making work for himself. They both look good in a bowler though.

He was at the RR day in Uxbridge, did you not see him?

Says the man who has not only supercharged his turbocharged Volvo, but is now fitting an engine in the back.

You want a simple transistor circuit Colin. It will take the small signal of the shift light and operate the relay.

Something along the lines of this.

You can pick up the components from Maplins cheap enough (no more than £4, and Maplins are expensive!)

That or a custom map like Oblark says

Colin, on my nitrous kit is a micro-switch set to activate at WOT. You can just see it on behind the pulley for the accelerator cable. Not what you asked I know but bear with me...

A bit crude so the nitrous kit makers came up with something that detects throttle position from the TPS:

    http://www.nitrousexpress.com/oldweb..._autolearn.pdf

Now the more advanced systems have RPM switches also:

    http://www.msdignition.com/Products/...ed_Switch.aspx

    http://www.zublin.com/nosrpmswitch/900011-002-A.pdf

Maybe one of the above could be used?

The more expensive nitrous controllers have that fuction also. Related to this, on my car I have a boost switch, at the moment set to deactivate the nitrous at 7 psi

    DIY RPM switch below....

beaten to it, this is a nice simple way to trigger the relay from the shift lights low power output, a few minutes with a soldering iron and it will be sorted, Colin
