I have spare standard pistons, which are in good order, if that helps? Probably need new rings/ transfer over the ones you have?
Did the timing belt jump?

It has confused me a bit, why did the belt only jump on the exhaust cam? are you sure the cam didn't go tight, I would have expected it to jump on both cams. With all the problems you've had with that head I don't think I would use it again.

If you want my advice, which you may not!
You've already had several thoughts about selling/breaking the car. I know for me, that once that thought enters my head, no matter how much more fettling I do with the current car, the idea won't go away and eventually will happen. May be now is the time to cut your losses, don't spend anymore money on the car, break it and move on?
IF you're absolutely sure you want to keep the car, then may be now is the time you should consider getting a mechanic who you trust to do the work for you. I'm not questioning what you are or aren't capable of doing. I have the upmost respect for all you guys who do all your own work on your cars, I wouldn't know where to start. If you do the work yourself again, the reliability will always be in the back of your head. Getting a decent mechanic to do the work for you will give you more condfidence in the car and will at least give you some kind of comeback should it fail a week down the line again.
Not trying to stir the pot, or question your ability Frank, just offering some advice looking from the outside. Good luck which ever route you pick! It must be hard getting a massive kick on the nuts everytime you think you've cracked it.

it took me 1 hour and 40 minutes to get to this stage
at least if i do it myself i can only blame myself if it goes wrong next time, and to be honest i don't trust anyone especially people i dont know (generic mechanics) to work on my car

if i didnt have the 744t i wouldnt dream of breaking it
I think Chris has hit the nail on the head here tbh.
If your going to fix it, and it sounds like you've made your mind up that you are then please for the sake of it put some replacement pistons, even if they're known good secondhand ones, after all why go to all the effort that you have so far and then buying new gasket etc to bolt it down and have another problem that could have been overcome by fitting replacement pistons at this stage. Just my 2p's worth...

So if you are more than capable of fitting a head, why aren't you capable of doing the basic of servicing i.e new tensioners iders and belts..people give you good advice and imho waste their time answering questions about your problems..every week there seems to be a Frankie thread..
