4" intake - does my head in.

I can't decide what to do for best.

I am unhappy with the open 4" ITG filter. It's too open for my liking.

ITG do an enclosed aluminium 4" housing for 200 quid, but that has a 5 inch inlet so where does one make a 5 inch hole?

    https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p...450bhp-stab122

I've been toying with 2 main design ideas for as many weeks.

Split the 5 inch inlet into 2 pipes using maybe the original plastic pipe and the ducting I already have?

Or get some alloy/stainless plate to make a custom airbox for the existing filter and ducting, move the battery to the boot (not sure how or where to mount it) so that I could remove the NS headlight for drag strip.

FFS I am doing my own head in.

Also want some small cell honeycomb to make an air straightener for the MAF housing - but can't find anything this side of the pond.

I guess I am grumpy having to wait over a week for a new seatbelt.

    Regards the honeycomb...

    Google 'Aluminium honeycomb'

    http://www.easycomposites.co.uk/Cate...Honeycomb.aspx

Seem to sell it in 1m or 2m sheets of different thicknesses, but maybe they'll send a 'sample' out to you just big enough for the MAF

Also search ebay for the same. Seems to also be used as a bed/support for laser cutting, etc.

I'm happy with it, it would look great under my bonnet Dave, may be you'll have to change your thread title to "WD's Relentless Pursuit Of Power".....lol

Seriously though, the ITG looks very nice, could you then tee 2 intake flexsi pipes down to the bumper open below the number plate, to save having to move the battery and you wouldn't then need to remove the headlight, unless this is a look you wish to achieve in track day pictures

as an after thought you could always turn the battery around 90degs as Rob (Oblark) has done in his 850 that would free up some space to route pipes to the headlight, if thats the way you wish to go

Two 2.5" cold air inlets won't flow as much air as a 5" inlet, I think the headlight idea was a good one it would look the business also - very 'T-800' going down the strip

I think you should do a battery relocation to the boot and look at all that room for activity's for a sexual air box build behind the head light

If I was going to cut holes for vents then it would be further up the bonnet. Faster moving air over the bonnet area going up the windscreen creates a low pressure area relative to that inside the bonnet/engine bay. Unless I was to fit a forward facing scoop (à la scooby-doo) I very much fear it would have the opposite effect)

I've bought some of the aluminium honey comb but the cells are rather too large and making it even in a 4 inch circle is almost impossible - so I am going to order that rather large sheet off easy composites.

I think the t-piece is viable, just a shame to bin the existing filter. The custom air box is more difficult to achieve but gives me more flexibility.

If it was me id be getting some live date. What are your intake temps charge air temps egt. Do they need improving. Most of this will change once the mapping is sorted. Get it tuned and if they are issues sort them if not stop playing with and enjoy driving it.
