Its a self protection measure & usually indicative of a sensor issue e.g. MAF. I've had it on mine when I forgot to plug in the injectors quite properly.

What Dave said^^ sounds like the ecu has gone to fail safe and this means the fan will run because it's not sure what's going on due to a fault, most likely that temp sensor fault you mentioned

My C70 done same recently, bought a new sensor as that's what I was told it was too. Not fitted yet but my advice, for all the price difference buy genuine Volvo. That's what I did, was only about a fiver different from eBay special.

Yep, something daft like maf, sensor or even a leak in an air pipe somewhere.

It can be the relay or connections to the relay on the fan unit by the rad.... but in my own experience and i got banned from VOC for a few days for arguing the point as they all thought i was a prat....it will 95% be the MAF but also it can be an A/C fault which is mentioned on Vadis!!.....with the T4 it is 98% MAF.....

So check these other points before buying a Volvo MAF and no OTHER aftermarket one as it will not get rid of the error codes...........Up to you what you do, i am only here to help....

When my p1 did that it was because of an air leak, a small VAC hose just before turbo inlet was off, had to look really hard to see it.

My S60 did this, it was the MAF. Also when scanning it the fault code pointed to that too.

Just to put closure on this the maf made no difference I finally traced it to a.broken wire on the temp sensor right where it goes into the block hopefully changing this will sort it,

    Thanks to all that replied
