    V70 T5 Tuning

*IF* I were to get the LPG fixed and using the car as my daily, I'd probably start mucking around and doing a few upgrades.

What do the T5's respond to best tuning wise? Other than LPG, as far as I know this one is standard.

What kind of gains are people seeing on a standard engine roughly?

    Ooh I dunno, 305bhp - that's gotta be around 'R' territory hasn't it?

I can only dream - but the proof is in the pudding. Once LPG is fixed, that will be my next port of call.

Also want to change grille, refurb alloys, get heated leather, refurb my other alloys, change the headlights (HID or angel/projectors) and try and find (decent) LED rear lights.

Any Volvo styling companies online anyone can point me to?

A remap will see it around 260 on that engine, maybe 270 if it's healthy but being an auto, there'll be torque restrictions in the lower gears. If you're planning to use the power, make sure you're running on petrol as thrashing it on lpg can melt things quite quickly.

hid installation is pretty easy on these, I've done dipped, main and foglights on mine with no issues from the MOT test.

partsforvolvos do aftermarket headlights, I'm not keen on them myself but they're quite popular.
rear light conversions can be done but you'll be soldering resistors to things to prevent a bulb failure warning.

I thought these were 240/250bhp from standard? 10/20bhp from a map seems a little measly...:/ Guess I'll have to couple it with a FMIC and exhaust and such like too.

Cheers for the heads up on the lights - I assume these are sporting a canbus system? Sa maybe I'll give the LED's a miss.

The engines are 247 bhp New but yours is 12 years old with a lot of miles on it. The gain in power is one thing but a remap will transform the way the car drives, giving you a lot more power low down. Mine gained 40bhp and 60Nm at 4k rpm. That's the deal-maker on the remaps, just don't believe the hype on these tuning websites. The newer 2.4 T5 engine will clear 300 with a map but not the early models.

as for HIDs, get the cheapest HID kit you can and buy some 50w load resistors to prevent the bulb failure warning. Don't get mugged by that canbus crap.

as mrp says you will gain alot of horsepower in the midrange, and alot more torque, you will really notice the difference

Is there scope to fit bigger callipers and brakes too, I'm thinking/hoping that something like on the XC90 would a)be up to it, and b)fit without too much fettling? I've 17's on the XC90 so reckon they'll fit under the 17's I have in mind so long as the offset is similar.

I begrudge paying hand over fist for aftermarket things when there are other suitable alternatives (like Princess twin pots being made to fit old Vauxhalls )

My car is lpg with a shark map on. Stage 2 map. I was racing my car on lpg on the trace at 155mph and blow cylinder one. Use the lpg with lube when you are just potting round.if you are going to use the power and open it up switch back to petrol. I wasn't using the lube. Once my new engine is fitted I will be using it. My car is a 2001 t5 once rebuilt and mapped should be 330bhp ish. R manifold, r cold intake and box, airtec intercooler, vxr injectors and a 19t td04hl turbo. All of which hasn't cost that much. But needed to go to and beyond the 300hp. The 16t fixed to yours won't get near 300bhp even with all my mods.but mid range it will feel like you have

I have a s60 t5 auto with 3 inch ferrita downpipe and full stainless exhaust my engine is spot on low miles I had rolling road at hlm I had a rica stage 2 on at the time and got 276bhp with around 300 lb/ft torque hammish took the map off and put his on it got 278.8 with same torque I think the p2 under a 2004 with a 16t will never get 300hp .also the auto has lower torque only in the first 2 gears 250 lb/ft then its off like a bugger.

just been looking at the rolling road board and there's a 850r with a 16t running 309 bhp and 347 lb/ft torque that's impressive.
