    Gearbox oil change

Going on a trip next month so thought i should renew the gearbox oil (94 manual t5), had the n/s driveshaft out on saturday and no oil came out although it was wet, does this mean its probably low?

    What oil should i use?

Whats the best way to carry out the job and what tools will i need?

Is it best to completely drain or is topping up ok?

I know on auto bmws that changing the oil can sometimes cause more problems, will this be the case for me?

    Many thanks

    Simon.

Simple job,one plug at the bottom to drain and one on the side to fill up.Takes 2L max.I believe 75w90 is the one but happy to be corrected.Look up in your manual if you have one.

75/90 full synth. use a bottle with a 10mm pipe to refill or you'll get it everywhere. hang the bottle from the side mirror.

A tip as a precaution!........Make sure you can undo the side filler plug first otherwise if you drain it out you can`t put any back in easily!

Oh yes - the old "don't do anything you can't undo" method.

This is what I was advised by Emlyn some time ago and my 209k gearbox hasn't got any worse
