    PO244 engine fault code D5

    The dreaded has happened and this keeps appearing when I boot it on the motorway. A search reveals it could be any number of things that doesn't fill me with hope! IC seems ok, no smoking or loud whistling from the turbo. Pottering around down its faultless (i.e with the mrs driving) but when I get it on an open road and give it some welly its not happy!

    Somebody said they have variable vaned turbos which sometimes get clogged, anyone experienced that?

    My local friendly Indy basically diagnosed it over the phone. They said it was more than likely the variable vaned turbo clogged up with carbon and although they do stock them on the shelf its rare that they have to replace a turbo on a D5.
    So I booked it in with them and they took the turbo off, de-coked it and put it back together with new seals. Voilą the Ovlov is back in rude health!

    If anyone in Lancashire needs a knowledgeable and friendly Volvo specialist then Readview Volvo are the chaps to see! I've used them for 2 years now and they've always been reasonably priced too.

    Adam and Paul really know their stuff. They have a few breakers round the back too so if they can get a decent 2nd hand part off one of those they'll do that. No one likes paying Volvos prices for spares!

    Oh and the codes a fairly generic one (I have the same trouble)
    On the list to do is...

    Check vac lines (again)
    Check turbo vanes aren't gummed/coked up
    Swap tcv
    Change fuel filter, possibly pump too

    Cleaned out the egr, but it wasn't that bad really.

    Yep it was going into limp before xmas and that turned out to be the in tank fuel pump, which again the boys at Readview sorted (sourced a 2nd hand one). I'd checked the vac lines and replaced the fuel filter prior to that myself but the fault kept repeating.
    Once the pump was sorted it lasted a month before this 2nd fault manifested and then it was much worse than when just the pump was weak/dieing/dead. It would go into limp but often would clear itself within 60 seconds or so without having to turn it off.

    Check your front bottom engine mount ,vacuum running and they are a common fault
