I was talking to a bloke today who put a pinto engine and box in a 960 and took it round a banger track. did quite well too.

Not as hard as you think. Pretty sure the US XR4T has that engine

Im hoping to use the volvo axle and prop and mod them.

I was told i can just up the boost on my 940 lpt to 12psi and get 200bhp safely. Is that true? Seems a bit too good to be true but i dont know volvos yet.

Ive had my capri for a while and she died a few months ago. The 940 im picking up saturday with tax and test so will use that until im ready to do the conversion so ive ordered a boost gauge and manual controller

Maybe not, just double checked and they fit the 16v Volvo head to the Lima block. Sorry

as a rule of thumb 1psi boost increase is generally 6-7bhp.

Lpt was 135bhp and 4psi so increase to 12psi will give 48-56 bhp increase so roughly 185bhp.

Sounds like a nice gain for less than £30 lol

What psi can i run it at before it causes problems? And what hp will it give me?

i'm relatively new to the 940 myself but i couldn't get past 10psi without detonation.....then advised to use super unleaded and found 13psi about max for the 13c.
with supporting mods (exhaust, chips) good for 220ish.

A 15g from a t5 is a straight bolt on job and will see 250bhp.

The Volvo engine in a RWD Ford is very common in Wales. One of the top rally cars here Mk2 escort is fitted with a 240 axle and red block Volvo engine bored and stroked to 2.8ltr with a EVO 8 valve head making just over 300BHP non turbo.

12PSI and a free flowing exhaust will get you in the 200BHP area but the turbo is on its limit. I would always fit the T3 turbo as fitted to the older 740 turbo. You can either do it with the T3 manifold and pipework or just make up your own pipes. To be doing the conversion you need to be able to make things fit so the turbo upgrade should not be a problem. The Volvo intercooler can start to pop open with boosts of 15PSI plus so it worth fitting a all alloy cooler while you are doing the conversion

    What are the chips about?

I want to get it to its best while im using the 940 and start doing bits when its in the capri
I think it will be a full exhaust first

It would be good to find out from someone whats involved in getting it into the ford

From what I have heard you can get 300bhp easy just with a bigger turbo and bigger cam .and bigger injectors and bigger maf . The are some forum members that have produced good power out of these engines .look on here and voc and turbobricks for some ideas mate .sorry I couldn't help more but don't now much about mechanical stuff .

Picked up the car saturday afternoon and got it home, fitted a boost gauge but boost was only going up to 0.3 bar then dropping off.
So i fitted the mbc and tried it bit by bit but could not increase the boost at all.

Any ideas?? It seems like the wastegate isnt holding but im no expert and never played around with anything that isnt n/a

Sounds like a leak. Check intercooler, pipework etc. And go from there
