    96 850R OBD2 issue

    Good evening all,
My 850r has thrown up the fuel and ignition electrical system light for some reason, ran the old girl empty the other day and she cut out just as I got home!!
Anyway ever since that the lights on. I've tried my dads code reader which is a memo scanner U480 but it just reads "linking error"?
    Any ideas?
Car runs fine just annoys me having the light on.

    Cheers

Either give it 50-60 miles to see if it clears it's self if not take to local independent volvo garage to get the codes read/cleared.

snap on launch will read and clear the codes, 95- 850's are primitive obd2, socket is under the centre consul. But as said before only certain obd 2 scanner/reader can connect via it.

-95 the code reader is built in, onto the front of the ecu Box housing, this has its own fly lead were you can read the dtc's and clear them.

Later 850s had an OBD2 compliance, but someone forgot to tell the diagnostic tool manufacturers. My 855 was one of the Last of the production line and standard code readers didn't work.

    Ok Chaps, i made myself a code reader andit is diplaying the following 2 faults;

    414
    121

Looking online it appears this points towards a MAF failing? do you guys agree?

I'm glad I saw this thread, as I was on the verge of buying an OBD2 reader. The couple I was looking at are Autel Autoscan 319 and 419, which state they scan *all* OBD2. I also found one that said it was specifically for Volvos, but didn't like the look of it.... Now I'm not sure what to go for?

Car is 96 850R with OBD2 socket under a panel next to the cig lighter. When I had my 97 V70 MOT'd by Cambridge Council, they had to take it to Marshal's, as their reader wouldn't work - which doesn't bode well (V70 had OBD2 socket in centre arm rest cubby hole)
1994 850 GL manual, estate - worn out
    1997 V70 T5 auto, estate - engine blown
    1994 850 T5 auto, estate - stolen, used in ram-raid, then burnt-out
Now driving 1996 850R auto, estate

The one Oblarks linked definitely works, as I've got one, and used it on his car.

Can have mine if you like, it won't clear the codes on my D5 and I now use a mate at work instead.

You can't beat the wire and LED bulb trick for cheapness!!!

You can clear codes as well, I just can't remember how at the moment. I'll have a root around...
