The damage is already done by this point so just because you can't hear it anymore doesn't mean it's ok

Biff have you changed your number?
    Try telling Frankie that.

not necessarily, mine sounded like a knackered tappet but the compressions was more or less ok.
the rod was s-shaped to the side in profile not shortened.

So today I've had all the plugs out & a compression test ran. Came back inconclusive but pretty convinced it's a bent rod or little end bearing. The plugs were all intact with a nice light biscuit color so it seems all was well pre over boost.
My plan is to run it for a while as I build up a nice clean painted engine possibly with forged rods & a few tasty bits. I don't really want to go to far as I will be restricted by my wallet, down pipe & I really don't want a paddle clutch. All depends on how long the current engine lasts & if it does quieter once it's "bedded in". This is my daily & I need it to remain that way.
I've backed the boost right back & will be purchasing a new bcs or tcv when I fit the engine along with a new clutch & smf.
Hopefully then I can scrub her up.

They were about 150psi or thereabouts Gav.
She's going for mot as planned tomorrow.
Don't know how I'm going to afford the engine or find a weekend & garage to fit it but sure something will come up. I'll just have to live in work I guess.

bent rod is still speculation, what gear and revs were being used when your boost went mad (I'm assuming it was at WOT)?

Best of luck with it, as I know myself it's very disheartening when the cars go wrong.

May be you should make a vid of the noise and put it up, someone might then be able to tell exactly what its, it could be a coincidence that this has happened at the time your boost when high, before you go down new engine routes and major expense

I'll have to join YouTube & post it up this week. It's going for mot later so hopefully once I use it it will go quieter but I very much doubt it will go at all & I'd say it's in the top end of the block from cylinder 4 or 5.
A mechanic has told me I'll never diagnose it without stripping it but I know a few of you boys have experience with a bent rod or 2.

ultimately you wont know for sure without dismantling.
perhaps the vid might indicate how bad it is by noise level/sound.

You may think you know everything about Volvos, just because you've had so many, but all you know is how to break them. I heard it, it was not a follower, and if you're so sure it was a follower, why did you change the engine?

because i found and bought a forged engine, the noise of that engine went after a good thrash, not after 100 miles or 1000 miles but instantly, i have no reason to lie whether it was rods or not what difference would that make to me? so you dont think an engine thats been sat for 4 years couldnt develop a sticky follower? yeah i know nothing about these cars? ive done just about everything there is to do on a t5/r but i know nothing

I see it as I'm better off removing the engine as I need to fit a clutch anyway so may aswel get a decent engine (been offered redbricks fully rebuilt engine for a tidy sum) & strip mine & sell what I can off it.
I think if it was a lifter it would of cleared & wouldn't quieten when the engine is coming off load. It sounds like the toyota's used to sound when they spun a crank bearing tbh.
I'll join up on YouTube when I get chance & post a video of it.
At least it took a page & a half before the slanging match started, but at least it has stayed on topic eh boys?

The Volvo expert who doesn't even know the size of the turbo inlet, sounds like you've got other people to do just about everything there is to do to you t5/r. There are people that have done far more to their cars, Oblark, Claymore, Wobbly Dave to name but 3, but are no where near as condescending as you. Maybe you should take other peoples opinions on board, rather than spouting the same old boring, "I know everything about Volvos" crap.
