    Not particularly.

The fluid in there is only around 2yrs old. But, it's not the ideal stuff. It's Titan Syntofluid which was recommended on Opie Oils. It's been fine, but the shift isn't QUITE as smooth as I feel it should be. On reading around, the general consensus is to ONLY use Volvo MTF.

So in essence, the fluid isn't old and shouldn't be too dirty, but I'd like to get the correct stuff in there for peace of mind and hopefully a slightly smoother shift.

Decided I'm going to buy 5L. Drain / fill with Volvo MTF / drive / drain / refill with Volvo MTF.

I think this will be fine.

Agree with Lee here. Generally, the dealer gives good service and you get a watertight warranty with all work. Generally!!!!!
There will always be cases of bad dealership experience........................
I don't think that are trying to 'rip you off', they just have a set of standards and procedures that Volvo have told them to follow, and they cannot cut corners as they will get in trouble. And the prices are fixed.

It's £41.99 for 4L normally with them but they had 20% off all Castrol products. That offer has expired, but they now have 20% off EVERYTHING on at the mo! The voucher code is on their home page but I think it's WAREHOUSE.

You'll never know, unless you contact Castrol and ask them where they get their info from? It may be incorrect.
Bottom line is, the correct oil for all P2R models 03 - 07 is ACEA A1/B1 5W-30 not 0w-30.

Does anyone know if the oil specs are backward compatible? Ie, my car calls for ACEA A4/B4 0W/30 but I've bought ACEA A5/B5 0W/30.

In answer to my own question and for reference for anyone else wanting to know, yes they are backward compatible. Here's an email reply from Opie Oils.

    Hi Simon

Your car needs a 0w-30 oil, but it doesn't need to be A5/B5, an A3/B4 would also have been suitable. The oil you have bought exceeds that, so it will be absolutely fine.

    Regards

    Tim
