    16in wheels on a V70R ?

One of the problems that we had with our old 855R was the ride which was truly harsh - its the main reason we sold it in the end

I'm 90% sure we'll be buying a V70R at the weekend, but I'm a bit concerned that the ride will start to annoy us after a few weeks - so is anyone running an R on 16in wheels? If so, what size tyres are you running and is the clearance ok? I'm sure that going from a 40 series tyre to a 50 or even a 55 will substantially improve the ride quality. I know the ultimate grip will be diminished a tad but we'll keep the 17s for track days etc if we do go down this route.

    Thanks, RT

EDIT - while I'm on about 16 in wheels, do you know if the Satellites came in a 16in fitment? Still love those wheels

    Depends if you mean a P1R or a P2R. P2 won't take 16" iirc.

P2 you won't be able to fit 16", as they won't clear the calipers, P1 I guess it would depend on the design of the wheels as to whether it would clear the brakes. If you were to fit 16s you'll want a 45 profile tyre, as 50 or 55 will increase the rolling radius, and make your speedo inaccurate.

If he's currently running 17s with a 40 profile, then 16s with a 55 profile with be massive in comparison, it does of course depend on the width as well.

Standard tyres on 16" were 205/50's I think

edit: I have 302 mm discs on my S70 and the Perfos fit over them

They have both sizes listed in the catalogue below so still non the wiser. My S70 had 50's

    http://accessories.volvocars.com/Acc...R_GB_NL_DE.pdf

It says that standard tyres on the 2WD R's were 205/45 x 17 so the closest 16" size to that is 205/50 x 16

    You're supposed to run 45's on 17's not 40's

If the 98R has 302MM front disks avoid the 16" Columba and Persus wheels as these won't clear the brake callipers but all the other phase one 16" wheels will fit - I do know some people have got Columbas to fit with the larger brake disks but it involves grinding parts of the calliper body away which isn't something I would be happy to try - Mike

Should be 225/40/18s, but as mind are 235, having 35s isn't really an issue.
