    Question knocking sound nsf :-(

    Hi guys,
So I've had the C70 T5 GT for almost a year now.
It's developed a metallic knocking noise from the nsf.
It's only really there when I'm turning right and all the weight shifts to the NS.
I've replaced the strut top not the rubber bit the bearing bit and the drop link and it's still there :-(
Apart from chucking more money at it I'm not sure where to look next.
Do I replace the rubber cap on the spring or the shocker cause that's all that's left to change ?
It wouldn't be so bad if it was a thudding sound but its metal on metal.
    Cheers guys
    Lee

Don't know much about Volvos yet, but if it's FWD have you considered CV joint?

This would show as a fairly quick, repeated, metallic knock on full lock. If the knockin is from left when wheel turned right I would say this is likely, esp if metallic.

If it's irregular clunking, it prob suspension bushes/links.

second that pete, shortly followed by the anti-roll bar drop links probably one or other, will be investigating similar noises on mine over the festive period.

Wishbones can produce a nasty clang when the bushes go, even if there's plenty of rubber visible. Get a lever behind it when you're under there checking the droplinks and strut tops, to see how much it moves. An easy check and would rule out or confirm the bushes quite quickly.

With the bonnet open, look at the strut tops and bounce the car, if you have excessive movement then it's more than likely top mounts, failing that look at drop links as if they are non genuine then do seem not to last.

    Hope you get it sorted.

Also check antiroll bar bushes if everything else checks out, but wishbone sounds favourite to me.

    I'd agree with above..

Random clunk - Wishbone, anti roll bar, suspension tops.

I has a horrid knocking coming from my front end. I looked and tightened everything, checked for movement etc. I eventually fitted some subframe bush inserts and the knocks went instantly.

I had a knocking sound coming from the front of mine as many will recall. It turns out the Volvo Mechanic was still working on it and was trying to get out from under the car... Oh, ok just kidding.....

It was actually the strut mountings and to be honest if your rubber spring seat has gone then you might as well as change the bearing as well. Just a reminder of what mine looked like when they came out last year........

Also check the lower ball joint in case it looks like this......
