    poor traction

Hi there, I am still having issues with this. when under heavy throttle in 1st, 2nd and 3rd the front wheels seem to spin a lot. is this normal for these cars I have eagle f1 tyres fitted and the tread is good. confused I thought the power should shift to the rear and compensate this. I have been told that there is nothing wrong with my awd system and I had no warning lights/messages. this is confusing me as I did not expect the car to behave like this especially being awd. its a 2005 v70 R. I am at a loose end now as what to do

Have you got it on some grass yet and launched it? get somebody to watch you do it and tell you what they see.

It should shunt the power to the back pretty quick as it monitors each wheel.

I have been told my angle gear is fine, maybe time to look at another garage as Volvo in Aberdeen don't seem to be too clued up. this issue is annoying me now, I did the grassy field test unfortunately no was there to watch the back wheels but the rear quarter was covered in grass and mud?????

    Bit strange that...

Are you 100% sure it's wheelspin? a slipping clutch can feel like wheelspin in a P2.

1- jack up one (only) front wheel
2 - put car in neutral
3 - by hand, turn the wheel in the air
4 - observe drive shaft, it should turn...

what will this tell me, should the prop shaft not turn also

if I do the same for the rear, what should the outcome be? if the angle gear is fudged will it turn or shouldn't it, its definitely wheel spin, the car pulls to one side I presume torque steer

if it spins its knackered. im not sure if jacking the front up would work as its not 100% awd. some with a R should come along soon

    the propshaft should spin
are the also bad like cluncking noises to be heard?
is there oil leak around the transfer box area?
the angle gear collar is real common failure in the R have a quick look up to get an idea...

craig not to upset you but i get none of your symptoms whilst giving it a size 10 full in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. With all the gadgets switched on in a straight line i get a bit of spin from front, traction light flashes then lots of grip.

i'm still not entirely clued up on this awd system yet but could it maybe be a sensor not telling the back end theres slip from the front? Someone might be along to tell me i'm an idiot shortly tho.

You shouldn't be getting wheelspin mate, if the angle gear is fine it could be the DEM, this controls the AOC which in turn controls the power going to the rear axle, as although the propshaft spins all the time you're moving, it isn't always connected to the rear diff. Santa had a problem with his, so he's be the man to speak to.

no, clunking. I haven't been under the car yet but there are no oil spots on the drive where the transfer box is located, I need to get this car to someone who has a clue about these things. that seems to be pretty hard to come by up in Aberdeen.

The collar from the gearbox to the angle gear can strip and you won't get drive to the rear but you won't get any fault lights either.

Found this old post about it

First thing to do is check for any fault codes using Vida/dice. Any relating to transmission will shed light on the fault. Don't use a generic code reader cos they won't accurately read the DEM if at all!

If all good, jack up the car (preferably on a four poster) and make sure the AOC module (says Haldex on it) that the harness is correctly plugged in and not dislodged. They have been know to come out.
Physically unplug it, clean the plug terminals with a good electrical cleaner spray and re fit. Secure in place with a cable tie.

Road test your car and see how she handles now.

For the record, if you have summer tyres on a P2R and gun the throttle, the front tyres may spin very briefly but only for a split second. Yes, the TRACS light may be flashing but that's only the DSTC working and detecting wheel speed difference. Totally normal mate.
If I floor my R in the wet then I can often get the light flashing but definately no wheel spin.

F1 tyres are very hard compound and will handle crap in cold weather. If your in Scotland then this time of year I would be running winter tyres.

Report back once you've done what I said...
