    WOT Judder on a T5 with a 304 Rica‏

    Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have recently installed a 304 Rica into my 1997 850 t5, it goes like an M3 but unfortunately its developed a judder/hesitation at Wide Open Throttle. Ive read that its possibly misfire but recently sometimes i have a problem getting into second and third so im wondering if its clutch slip?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks,

    Will,

Probably time to fit new Volvo plugs and/or if over 20psi of boost reduce it.......mine was the same at ***mph at WOT and found that my boost guage only reading to 20 had a stop at 20 so i replaced it with a 30psi one and i was on 23psi at those speeds. reduced it to 19/20 and the hesitation went and all is fine.

Ok, so you guys say its more likely to be the ignition system rather then fuel starvation?

If so il look at replacing the leads

    Thanks,

May I also recommend that you change the rotor arm and dizzy cap. Do that before the leads. Because it could be this and may prove a cheaper fix.
I don't break gearboxes. Just engine mounts.............

plugs, leads, dissy and coil would be my suggestion. I wouldn't expect one element of the ignition system to outlast another by much.

Fortunately no time to do it now, I've actually been given a job to do - piping, HVAC & pumps for a new accommodation building hurrah!

Meanwhile, back on topic, I had a slight hesitation at WOT that I put down the spark plugs also. On my project thread I have rattled on a bit about spark plug gaps. If you up the boost apparently it's a good idea to reduce the electrode gap a little…..assuming the rest of the components are in good nick of course as u r pointing out

You meant spark plugs?! Thats why its been running so rough....

Just ordered a new dizzy and rotor so il be changing those soon, the plugs i went with were Denso TT's if i remember correctly. Had good reviews and did notice a good improvement when they went in

Im glad your suggestions aren't clutch issues as ive heard they are a pain in the ass to do

    Thanks for the info guys

Looks like my car is going to get some presents this year....

I have just had a look round the engine bay and can hear that the coil is ticking, could this be a sign that its on its way out? or is this normal?

If you can try some genuine Volvo plugs, i used other brands and whilst some say they are good they didnt seem to last as long

as above, go genuine first with this level of power but they do need changing more often with increased power.

i used ngk platinum (cost £70 for 4!) in the T4 rated 5 not 6 for the increased heat.
went well but i had to change them every 10k, - nos blunts the electrodes ££££££
