    S60 Wont lower.

I've just had a set of eibach lowering springs (-30mm) fitted to my 2002 S60 2.4t and the rear dosn't seem any lower. The measurement from the centre of the wheel (7.5 x17 Thor rim) to the top of the wheel arch is 13.5" / 345mm approx at the front and 14.5" / 370mm at the rear. The car is fitted with standard shocks (not Nivo's) and everything as been checked and measured and seems ok. The mechanic who fitted them is a bit flummoxed. I've measured a couple of S60's with standard springs and the ride height is the same as mine with the lowered springs. Has any one had similar problems or got any measurements - standard or lowered that will confirm if my springs are ok or not? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry I can't offer any pics im not photo to computer savvy.

    Firstly...

    Hi, I'm .... I have an S60 blah blah...

We're not Wikipedia, we're a relatively friendly bunch (mainly) so feel free to introduce yourself

Now, your rear end problem... are you 100% sure you don't have nivomats? there's a surefire way of finding out.

If your shock looks like this, you have nivomats.

Sorry M-R-P for not introducing myself - its the first time i've ever posted anything on a forum so im a virgin at this. The shocks are not "Nivo's" the mechanic who fitted the springs even went to the trouble of getting a new shocker to measure against the existing shocks and found them to be the same. The eibachs are currently fitted to the car and have been fitted for about 2 weeks.

bit strange. the back of the s60 normally rides a little high, even when lowered but I'd be suspicious if it's not dropped at all.

You are sure the car didn't already have 30mm lowering springs fitted.....just saying.

I should have measured the centre of wheel to wheel arch before the eibachs were fitted but i din't. I've had other non-volvo vehicles lowered previously and had no problems - jus wondered if it was a volvo (S60) problem? which is why I've shown the measurement after the eibachs were fitted in case anyone had come across this problem before.

The original springs have been on the car from new (havin only recently bought the car off my father in law who has owned it from new) and the eibachs were shorter when measured against them so I can only assume the original springs are just the standard ones .

GWE has eibachs on his S60 (I think), I'm sure he'll be along shortly.

he does according to his signature, I've seen his car it doesn't look really low. It does look good tho, and since he has managed 350+ hp it got me thinking about S60s.......

Anyway, back on topic - maybe the new set up needs a little time to settle. 2 weeks is a fairly long time tho

edit: lol, there he is, while I was writing the above

Thanks for all the replies mine looks similar to GWE's (wot size are your wheels GWE?) - jus thought mine still seemed high. If anyone knows where I could get any offical centre wheel to wheel arch measurement figures for standard cars it would be appreciated so I can put my mind to rest.

Thanks Stephen / Robert, thats the info I wanted. Compared to yours Robert mines 1.25" lower which translates as about 30mm - I should have gone to specsavers!! Believe it or not these are the third set of springs that have been fitted since I got the car - the 2 previous sets were APEX (which if you want your teeth shaken out rather than go to the dentists are the one's to fit!) and didn't make any difference to the back end at all - or so I thought which is why I ditched them for the Eibachs - which give a far better ride for not much more money.

I can vouch for the Apex springs being hard - coupled with loads of powerflex and stiffer strut brace, makes the car feel like a go-kart. Bloody good in the twisties tho

I really need to get my finger out and get my springs fitted...

RJ-S60 did you just use springs or did you swap the shocks at the same time...???
