The trackday car is a different project that i'm considering, possibly just dreaming about atm, it would include buying another t5 & jazzing it up for the track. Would need to set a budget [probably with the help of some of the more frugally minded on the forum ] & give myself a year or two to get it done, if ever. Just throwing a few ideas out & seeing what I get back. The M5 powerplant option doesn't seem to be winner...better luck next time!

Thanks for the input, much appreciated - 'forging' what does that entail/what does it do/who does it & how much does it cost? Seen it mentioned in a few threads so may as well throw out the noob question whilst i'm new )

If it were me mate, you have a nice t5, build a decent all rounder that you can scare yourself in & still carry the kids & dogs.
Forging is the process to which the conrods are cast, they are cast so that they have high tensile strength & therefore able to run more boost & fuel/airflow. You could have your engines crank lightened & balanced as oe engine components are mass produced they're not very efficient. This would therefore make your engine rev faster & spool the boost quicker. The list could go on forever but your power hike would be great. These engines it's more about the torque though.
If it was a t5r or an 850r I'd understand keeping it standard but with a good list of mods & the right direction your 850 will be all you need.
If you want rwd though I suggest a 740 or 940 as these are rwd to start with & would swallow an m5 lump pretty easy as said with the right fabrication skills.
Finding someone to trust without costing you a kidney may be the biggest challenge.
