Who knows? I sort of hope it's the coil as I've had issues with it in the past if I haven't used the car for a while and water get's in through the bonnet vent into it. (all that will change with the new bonnet)

Ok, update on the non starting, swapped the coil, still no spark, took the injectors out, and no fuel either, I can hear it prime so, is it most likely the crank sensor, or should i be looking somewhere else?

The guy checked the ECU by confirming whether it was sending power to one of the sensors on ignition.
usually if it's an imob error then it will fire for a split second.....then stop, sounds more like an earth fault to the ecu to me.
4.4 motronic ecu. ostrich emulation chip. boost sensors+ wideband inbuilt to the ecu. 650cc injectors. hybrid GT28 turbo. custom 5 branch manifold. Large side mount intercooler. pipercross custom airfilter. no cat. no back boxes >< All in a saxo

So after it's non starting hiccup last week the Volvo has gone off to it's temporary home, so there should be some regular updates from now.

So it looks like you were correct with the crank sensor ,any idea how that got damaged then or was it just down to its age it failed.
I suspect something broke off the starter, as it's been getting worse over the past few months.
