    Etm?

    Went to look at a car today with a view to buy and do up, then sell on. The ETS light was on, and it was hunting on idle. I took it for a run, and to start with it picked up, and boosted fine, after a while it lost power, and made a whooshing sound as if it had popped a boost hose, by the time I got back, it still had no power/ wasn't boosting, but there was no noise, so popped the bonnet and all hoses were where they should have been. Is this all likely to be down to the ETM, or do you think there are other issues.

    Nope - won't be ETM, sounds more like a split/loose hose somewhere or even split i/c.

    ETM gives erratic idle, random stalls, flatspots in the rev range but won't cause a woosh. or permanent loss of power. Didn't you plug your code reader into it?

    D'oh!

    Sounds like a boost leak somewhere mate. or possibly a coil pack breaking down.

    A coilpacdk wouldn't cause a noise though would it. It's just strange it stopped, but power didn't pick up.

    ME7 - when it detects a boost leak, it'll cut power by limiting boost/fuel/ throttle response (depending on mood)

    Coil pack was just something I thought I'd throw in

    unless the woosh was the noise generated by the car suddenly shutting the throttle due to a coil pack going. (can't remember what mine did when it threw a coil, ran like a 3 legged donkey tho)

    It wasn't misfiring at all just had no boost. Oh well, if it needs a new intercooler that's no biggie, as I'm going to have a spare one.

    Go for another look mate, check the bottom i/c hose and the short collar between the turbo and top pipe.

    Won't have time now, a boost leak I can live with, though the drive home might be fun.

    Its either a boost hose split or a sticky waste gate

    1996 850 T5 AWD - Self tuned M4.4 ECU with COP`s, B5254T ( S60R internals in a 850 block ) ostrich 2.0 , VXR injectors @ 3.8 bar, K24 turbo with a 6+6 compressor wheel, 3.25" MAF, top mounted Dump Valve, RN Exhaust manifold, 3" downpipe with 200 cell cat, 2.75" Stainless exhaust, Brembo calipers, S60R brake discs, stainless RIP kit, 3" Throttle body,
