    Hydroprinting rub strips?

Just wondering if anyone has had this done to their ageing faded black rub strips?
Wouldn't it permanently solve the eternal problem of having to repeatedly black them up?
A very dark subtle carbon print or just black.
Or would the texture make it look naff?

Have plenty else to spend my money on for now so just asking what thoughts are.

Had thought about replacing with colour coded volvo parts but it means changing the rear bumper I think as the parts are different. I'd probably go for black/carbon.
Have heard bad stories about the results when the strips are painted. Worried it would look naff with the rough texture.

Cheers. I have tries a few things. MRPs advice was to use the same cloth after applying Meguiars tyre gel any hat seemed to do a fairly good job.

    None are permanent though.
Was thinking this way might achieve a good result, look better than painting and be a permanent fix.

ive colour coded a few black strips on other cars. just got to use the right primmers. i applied plastic or etch primmer then filler primer the textured effect is gone. best doint it on spare strips though. you could get the black bits in rear bumper colour coded or am i getting wires crossed

You have to spray a base coat onto the plastics before dipping anyway.

...so I either case the textured finish should be lost?

The issue I thought with the rear bumper is that it is a different pattern/design of inlay on the facelift models which came with body coloured rub strips. I assumed therefore that you cannot just buy body coloured replacements in the pre facelift models.

    i.e.
    This pre facelift

    Vs. this post facelift

...the strip down the rear wing does not connect with the boot lip.

But then I've just found this

    So who knows.

Like it but a bit torn. Don't want the car to look like a 'pretender'. Looking like a facelift when it isn't.

This car is in danger of becoming the obsession my 944 was.

I'd be tempted to spray with high build primer if you were to "dip" them mate, think with the texture & a pattern it may look a bit naff.

Agree. Only an option if the texture is lost.

Like you said if you colour code it will look facelift.
How about a nice gloss anthracite with matching wheels?
I find the dipping may go out of fashion then you will end up painting them anyway. Lol
Stephenevans99 's engine bay does look fabulous but can't help thinking if it were on the outside & looking at it all the time you couldn't help wishing it was real.

Someone at Trax had a Volvo with carbon strips just like you want.... Hmmmmm, it looked ok I guess but like Biff says what if and when it goes out of fashion?

I'm having the same dilemma at the moment wondering weather to get my roof rails dipped along with other outside parts.... just worried in 2yrs it will look old hat.

I would go for a nice black finish, or the white Volvo looks really nice... at the end of the day go with your gut feeling as it's you that has to be happy with it

If I could get a proper colour match and texture gone then I'd be tempted. Re the carbon, I guess I agree really thinking about it. Fake carbon all over the outside could really feel fake. Anyway, other things to spend money on first.

When it comes to roof rails. I keep thinking about removing them altogether and getting replacement strips but they're £160!

I know I thought the same about the roof rails but the price put me right off... anyway I think they give the car "character" now

When my dad had his 850 T5 volvo did his strips and it looked awful with the texture. He took it back and they smoothed it down and did it again, that was done back in 99ish and it still looked perfect when he sold it years later. The car belongs to a member on here now

I spent hours on an old cavalier of mine rubbing back the texture with wet & dry & then applying high build & paint. Took a while for a good finish but was really worth it.
