Yes it does and as my car was low mileage it was even better. I went out with the Volvo mechanic afterwards and even he said wow. Better still when the turbo back exhaust was done . I do the same run every day on cruise control and experimented different speeds and found maximun mpg at 85 mph unless you done 30 mph 70 mpg plus. Peter

Quite enjoying our new (to us) V50 D5 here - it's a 2009 and we are averaging 45mpg or so. The facelift ones look quite sharp as well.

I looked at a new V40 before buying this and discovered that it was a Focus - the nearest thing to the V50 in the new range is the V60, I think.

DPFs are fine if you drive the car enough. It's if it only does short town journeys that they cause problems.

The Euro 3 D5 has no DPF or Swirl flaps and a simpler EGR system and has a black engine cover, only available in 163BHP and badged as a D5.

The Euro 4 2.4D and D5 are the same engine with different ECU maps (163BHP for 2.4D and 185BHP for D5) both have DPF's, Swirl flaps and a more complex EGR system.
Both the Euro 4 engines have silver covers and are indistinguishable by eye from each other.

Car should be badged as a 2.4D or D5 respectively, unscrupulous sellers have been known to badge 2.4D's as D5's.

Engines changed from EU3 to EU4 around early 2006 but there are quite a lot of facelift cars around with the older EU3 engine, this is regarded as the best combo but typically only occurs on '05 - 55 cars, there are some exceptions but most after 06 are EU4.
My 55 plate V70 2.4D is a EU4 and will be getting remapped to get it back up to D5 power or a bit more ;-)

The DPFs need changed at approx 100k as they do stop working, fault lights come on ,it not to bad now as it's not volvo only parts any more.
Ps don't over fill the engine oil max is 3/4 on dipstick.

Good to hear you happy with the car.

    Any photos yet ?.

Aww Al I really like the V40. I think the interior is in a different league from a focus but the boot is comical
    Thanks

No photos yet... but will try to grab a couple when the a) car is clean and b) it's not raining

The dipstick has the official 3/4 fill label next to it, nice way to fix the problem by Volvo

Update - new sig pic below - car still needs a proper clean though!
