    ready for winter

hi......just wondered what plans people were making for winter, apart from the usual and obvious..... has anyone used tyre socks before ??, and i was considering trying to engineer some quick release type big ass spot lights or something

Luckily we don't get too much bad weather here in the 'big smoke' if it does get REALLY icy or if we get a light covering of snow I leave the car safely parked up.....and take the go ped to work !

I don't need to use them but MissB uses Snowsocks on the S60, I used them on my old 850 T5 too.

They are very impressive...got to a point were we were trying to get them stuck...we didn't manage to beat them.
Bear in mind you have to take them off when you get to clear tarmac, so I'd imagine they can be a pain unless you drive on purely untreated roads during the winter.

I remember the guy who prepared for the winter by carrying a shovel, snow socks, blanket & provisions for 2 days. Bus driver didn't let him on

i'm on the 4wd bandwagon and got the swb pajero ready for winter service, but i have a funny feeling the girlfriend will be using it seeing as my car is 4wd....gonna have to think of reason why her DS3 will be better in the snow than the R

The grip the AWD cars find in all conditions (not just in the snow) is astonishing.
They just feel so much more planted on the road.

I can't see me going back to FWD tbh.

yeah my old a4 quattro was great in the snow even on 8inch wide wheels with summer tyres. i had a 1.25 zetec fiesta with 15inch forrest stage knobblies on it, easily the best snow car ive ever had.

i've always been happy enough driving in the snow, its other people (who cant drive in the snow) crashing into me that gets me worried

Throw some Snowsocks in the boot and you'll be fine
I'd get them sooner rather than later tbh.

I had some Wintrac Vredstein tyres on my V70R AWD, agree with you there, much more stable under hard acceleration. But no torque steer was boring!

Are you putting them on different wheels or swapping the tyres onto your everyday wheels?
