HELP!! S60 D5 - Power system service Urgent

    Hi Everyone,

Some advice needed if possible please - completely stuck!

My 2005 S60 D5 hasn't put a foot wrong in the last 5 years (175k now) but a short while ago the ABS and Traction lights came on, along with the battery light and the message - Power system service Urgent.

I took this to a volvo specialist who was going to put it on his reader but unfortunately the OBD wouldn't connect with his software, nor will it connect with my local MOT centre's reader although I connected a generic OBD2 reader and it brought the LED light on the reader on suggesting there is power there. I have replaced the battery and the car starts perfectly etc but cannot get these lights to disappear (all fuses checked). Could a faulty alternator cause this fault and would the low voltage bring on the ABS lights etc?

Any help much appreciated as the family golf is getting some serious mileage on it as a result!

    Cheers

    James

Dounds like CEM trouble to me.

There's a fuseboard above the pedals, undo 2 torx screws and remove the panel below the steering column, the CEM is in there. with the key out of the ignition, give any wire bundles a good wiggle and see what happens. Since the obd port is directly connected to the CEM, the "specialist" should have realised there was an issue there and looked into it (or at least suggested it).

Welcome to the club by the way.
