    Wary about an mot

I was looking at a 00 V70 2.4tdi (new shape dash), everything wasn't to bad till I drove it. Despite passing the mot a month ago and having ball joints and drop links done (got shown old parts, that's if they were of that's car!), there still some rattles and chunks coming from under it. I asked what it might still he didn't know (obviously). Then going over bumps, it's as if the whole car "squirmed" (like a chassis made of rubber, sounds daft I know but I'm struggling for a word to describe it), but apart from that, was fine.

Has 155k on on which I believe to be genuine. It's just that if it's been mot'd why the hell is there still ball joint and drop link sounding clunks!

And one of the headlights has a bad crack, which he said passed the mot fine....hence I think it's a hooky one

shocks, bushes (ARB, Rear Axle) see if you can get the rep of the MOT test centre as there is still some these days that are very lenient for good friends etc

Maybe best of just giving this one a miss mate if your not to happy about how legit all this is. They can be an expensive hobbie fixing them up.

Squirming could very well be a combination of top front spring seats, wishbone bushes and shocks. Just because the bush/seat/shock looks ok on these cars, doesn't mean it is.
Knackered shocks will cause the car to twist over speedbumps, and they often won't have any visible signs of being bad and they almost never bounce due to the weight and suspension configuration.

Thing is, you'll be looking at nearly a grand to redo the front end and rear shocks so is it worth a punt?

    No. walk away.

My R definatley had a bent MOT on it, the amount of stuff that was wrong with it would mean there was NO way it would pass an MOT, if I where you I'd either tell him him want to get it inspected first (use AA or similar) or walk away, if there's a bent MOT on it you dont know what else could be wrong with it.
