    Price of oil!!!

Going to give the V70 T5 a service soon so she is ready for winter. Looked in handbook to see what oil type I need. I had a sinking feeling when it said 0W 30 ACEA A5/B5 Fully Synthetic. I knew it was going to be expensive, but THIS
expensive??!! and that is only 4 litres.

I dare not look at how much I need for a full change.
In my old Shogun I could put used chip pan oil in the sump and he would keep plodding on. Better not do that with the Volvo.......

I know the 2.3 T5 lump uses 0/30 full synth or 10/40 semi. I don't know if this applies to the 2.4.

If you can use the 10/40, you'll have a quieter engine and it's cheap as chips. I use the cheap carlube (or similar) stuff and change it every 4-5k to keep it all clean. It's a 205+k mile engine so I like to do what I can for it.

I think it's 5.4 or 6.4L you need, I don't measure it, I just fill it til there's enough in there.

I rang the local indie who did a cambelt change and other bits and pieces for me last year and he said to definitely use the 0W30. Was tempted to use 10W40 semi as she has done 110k, but he said that was a nono

We use 0w30 in the R, but apparently can use 5w30, as when the R was released 0w30 didn't exist (I think it was developed for the Focus RS). Eurocarparts pricing does seem a bit strange lol.

Make sure you put the sump plug back in before filling it up

Not that I've ever done that you understand.

Tesco are currently doing a deal on Castrol GTX 10w40 semi sythetic oil, Half price £6 for 2lt. I stocked up last time on this as I do my mrs car and the cars I buy and sell with it. I know they are doing GTX Magnitec 10w40 fully synthetic half price to at £9 for 2lts too. I looked online to check as I thought. Just thought i'd throw it out there for you and anyone else.

Rang up a couple of dealers in my area to get their opinions as well. They both said 0W30 A5/B5 of the equivalent C2-C3 Fully Synth. So, thats the way I will be going. Got a couple of bottles from Euro Car Parts using that coupon. Cheers Stribo!!

That's very good oil for a lot of people, good for track days ect.
Nice and thin on start up to get the oil flowing around the engine but just a bit more drag when at normal engine temp but will thin out a bit more when the engine gets very hot from a bit of track action.
So what's the rate per barrel ,castrol would want £10 per litre so approx £250 per barrel.
If you can sell it,guess its on a stock list somewhere ,how much then I would have one. To use for summer oil change, then back to 0w30 for the winter.
