Saving for some tlc on Gul.

Been to a couple of bodyshops so far this week, and as expected, both said Gul needs a full respray to get the best result. Amazingly, they both quoted £2,500 for the work. GRN are to have a look as well, and then I need to do some saving. The mrs is fine about it, as she knows how much I like the car, but this won't happen until next Summer or even later.

If anyone else(T5 Pete possibly), is going to have a Gul resprayed, would having 2 done at the same place help on price?

Bit more than I expected, but for 2 to quote the same, it seems to be the going rate.

I'm sure you'll make a cracking job of her, but I believe an oven is best, which a guy I went to in Sheffield today didn't have. If £2,500 sorts mine, then I'll do it.

Yep it is good to have tempt control and bake them but as long as you use the correct paint that's fast drying and some one who knows what there doing its should'nt be bad at all.

If it helps with the decision, I was quoted a lot more than that for my respray. Big cars big prices

Deathrider was saying that for his to have a bare metal respray, it was £3,800-£4,500 for a V70, so a lot more than what I'm looking at paying.

Not a cheap exercise at all getting bodywork done to a good standard!

I had some work done on my Honda Integra Type R in 2011 due to a hit and run, Although it was minor scuffing it was basically the whole front wing painted which was blended into lower door and mirror cover, Blended into A-pillar and Blended into front bumper.

Cost £750 but the standard of work was insane you could not tell, They are located in Sheffield called The Bodyshop funnily enough and have and oven etc.

I used them as my friend had a Nugget Yellow VW Corrado bare shell resprayed with them, Cost him £6000 though but it is a concourse show car!

Its like anything, You get what you pay for. If you skimp and get a bad job the car is ruined!

a oven wont make a good or exelent paint job. exelent prep is the only thing thatl give you a perfect pain job. 2k paints harden using a chemical reaction. a oven just speeds up the process. spending that amount of money on a paint job id expect 5 year warranty against corrosion or any paint defect. and it would have to be 100% perfect and id inspect every sq mm. if the gul was mine id hire a unit for 2 month and do it my self. i dont trust anyone to do work for me. to spend half the cars value on one job and to put so much trust into that man is to much to ask in my opinion. thing is unless your going to keep it for a very very long time your never going to get your money back. its never going to be a classic like fords rs's are. volvo's just dont have anywear near the intrest of the old skool ford scene.
s60 2.4 t5 eibach springs,up rated rear anti roll bar, poly bushed wishbones, poly lower engine mount, fmic, bmc air filter, 3" decat, 2.5" stainless exhaust, hlm remap 328bhp,

if i had 5k to spend on a classic car. a gul would be near the bottom of my list. id have a cosworth or s1 rs turbo. not theres two proper classic cars.being a one off colour isnt reason to make it triple the value of other t5r's in my opinion and a lot of thought should go into that befor spending huge amounts of money on a car thats probobly not going to increase in value any time in this decade.
