    M.O.T. Today, Passed but.....

Car went in for its M.O.T. today. no problems apart from a tyre on it's way out but I got them to read the codes as the car isn't always starting. Seems like a random fault.

    Anyway the codes are:

    9300 - Clutch Pedal Break/Make
720A - Communication between engine control unit and immobilizer faulty

Can anyone translate into English please?

    what model is it?

could be immobiliser ring problem is it is a s70/v70 or c70 causing the fault. common, and cheap for a new one.

re clutch pedal fault that is logged , do you have cruise? - does it work if yes?

Clutch pedal issue is the switch for the cruise control.
Immobiliser and ECU don't always seem to talk to each other,, either a dodgy wire, or corroded connection. Well done on the pass BTW.

Congrats. It's a nice tidy car so I was confident it'll go through.

    Jamie - it's a ME7 C70 T5. It'll be an easy fix if it is the ring.

    Thanks for the info guys.

Jamie, it is a 2004 C70 rag top, manual, it has cruise control but I never use it

I am hoping it is nothing more than the antenna ring and the indy did suggest that last time I was there.

At the moment it is not a major issue, I just lock the car using the remote and unlock it and try again.

Is the antenna ring something that gets worse over time? Or does it just keep on with the random cut-outs?

changing the antenna is pretty easy mate and afaik, cheap too.

the clutch position sensor is also a cheap and easy fix too.

I'd be happy to lend a hand should you need it

I wouldn't worry too much from having codes read unless you have a MIL on. I scan probably a dozen cars or so a week and you get lists of codes from them, usually not related to the fault the car is showing. I would always clear them, test drive then re-scan. You can have a fault happen years ago that the ecu has logged but has never been cleared but that doesn't mean it still currently exists.

you are doind the correct thing - you need to lock it to start a new cycle, taking the key out and trying again immediately often does not work.
it could suddenly fail on you altogether at worse.

i would try the antenna , about £25 from volvo i think but someone probably has a secondhand one anyway.

Thanks again for all the input, I will sort out a new Antenna ring this week and fit it. Good to know Martin is close by if things go wrong though

I'm not too bothered about the clutch/cruise control error as Nobananas said it may not be a valid fault although I will check the cruise control works at the weekend even though it is not something I will ever use

@Graham....LOL, No, not going to happen Not until I kill the car anyway

The cruise control fault will be very intermittent, it'll just stop working and not start till you restart the car. It's caused by fluid weeping from the clutch master (nothing to worry about) and getting into the sensor switch.

I love cruise control, I even use it round town if I can
