    Wobbly arse...

For a while now I am getting a rear wobble when going over pot holes, bumps or bad uneven surfaces. If I over a lump/bump and both rears do it at same time it doesn't seem to happen. Some times it's so bad it's like I got square wheels on the rear. My Volvo mechanic is unsure what it could be as his experience with R's is limited. I'm thinking it could be the rear shocks?

Reckon you are right there mate. Try and get a friend to follow you down a bumpy road and watch your rear suspension. If it is that bad, it will be obvious to see.

The most probable cause is worn/weak shock absorbers. Push down hard on each rear corner and when you release the load see if it bounces up and down on its own (which it shouldn't)

I had this on the S60 and same on my Father In Laws, i changed my rear shocks and springs which helped a little but not full, I know that the rear bushes on the S60s are known for being rubbish, may be worth you changing for polybush for two reasons, first being more than likely will solve the wobbly arse and second your handling and tyre wear will improve

As Al says, it's a known trait, our S60R does it, mainly on the rear, but have had it happen on the front once.

Yeah, it's not very confidence-inspiring, is it? You wonder if a nervous driver might snatch at the wheel when surprised by the back-end bunny-hopping out. Surprised that Volvo let it go to market (and /or didn't fix it) given their safety focus.
