    D5 Disconnecting vacuum engine mounts

    Hi all

    2002 S60 D5 140000mls.

Just had the return of Limp Mode above 2500rpm, especially when engine is cold.
Was occasional but now happens pretty much every day, especially when accelerating steadily up to 3500rpm.
Going above 3000rpm when cold will pretty much always do it.
Will also sometimes do it with engine up to temp.

No warnings on DIM and no warning lights on dashboard.
Cars had a new intercooler, MAF, Fuel filter, airbox and most of the turbo hoses replaced in the last 6 months.
Nothing obviously loose, perished or damaged under the bonnet.

As a process of elimination I have just disconnected and blanked off the vacuum engine mounts and, so far, it seems to have stopped the limp mode issue.
Took it out this morning, stone cold, and TRIED to get it to limp and wouldn't, same story later with engine up to temp, need to do it over a few days to be sure.
Long story short, I am skint as far as spending more money on the car goes for at least the next 2 months so, what I'm asking is:

How long can I safely leave the mounts disconnected for?

I'd like to leave them off for a good few days to confirm my suspicions that the fault is with the mounts or associated pipework or possibly the switch on the airbox.
It could well be a few weeks before I'm able to get it in for proper diagnostics as the only place near to me would be a main dealer it won't be cheap and my concern is that leaving then unhooked for weeks might cause other issues.

Any advice appreciated but it WILL be weeks before it can go in for any more work or further professional diagnostics.

    Thanks guys.

Well it`s not the Vac mounts as it still does it most mornings with the mounts disconnected

Need to get it in for proper diagnostics as I`m just floundering around with it now.
If it`s the turbo or anything else major this car will meet a sticky, or possibly flamey end.

Just out of curiosity, are these earlier P2`s EVER right or is it just an endless stream of problems and hassle?
Tempted to fix it with a gallon of unleaded and a match tbh.

Wish I`d gone down the old Jag or Alfa route now, can`t see it`d be much worse than this, can`t imagine there`ll be another Volvo on my drive after this one.

They're not that bad. Mine's generally fine. no more niggles than any other car I've owned.

The vulture in me says if it is likely to meet a fiery end and it has DSTC could you please remove the two sensors under the storage part of centre console. Ta

Martin, I`ve already spent £3600 ish and counting!!!
And yours is a petrol...most of my issues are directly related to it being a dirty stinking diesel.

@jdavis Nope, just plain old STC.
Realistically I can`t break it, it owes me too much.

I guess I`ve just had a bad run with it and ,logically, I should stick with it as it`s worth nothing really so no point selling it, just had a bad few days with it and needed to vent...

Also been looking at XJ6`s at a grand but frying pan/fire springs to mind!
