I have had my car on a TWD Dyno with the fuse removed putting all the power to the fronts. When the AWD fails it strips the splines that drive the rear prop shaft. The cost of replacing the a gle gear is close to £2000. I wouldn't think that removing the front shafts would put all the power to the rear wheels as the system can't recognise out of sync front wheels. It's a very complicated system and I wish you all the best trying to retro fit one.
I don't think the 850/v70awd is anywhere near that sophisticated....lol

Whats the extra cooler on the fmic? Just a weirdly placed oil cooler or charge cooler?

So as to bear out our theroy's from the conversations on the Sunday afternoon drive way mini meet, Dangerous's post has just shown that the drive to the rear comes from the out side splining of the O/S gearbox diff output which is solid to the crown wheel, so with front shafts out and rwd should work, oh this is going to make for excellent vid's on the hill at retro rides

In a nutshell, Yes. If the viscous coupling is installed, it should lock itself up (like an auto gearbox) and drive the rear wheels.

Problem is you'll need to block the driveshaft holes up as you don't want gearbox oil being spewed out. To add to that I don't know how the angle gear will be able to take having all the power going through it (let alone the connecting sleeve) though comparing it to the size of the gearbox input shaft it should be fine.

    There's only one way to find out........F I G H T

Ah, forgot to say in the post that the n/s and o/s inner and outer cv joints would have to be present, the inner's will stop the oil pouring out of the diff and the outer's will stop the wheels falling off, just the driven shafts will need to be removed between the inner and out cv's ... simples .... well that's how it looks to me, but I've been wrong before...lol

I was just thinking they might fall out, but the N/S does have a spring locking ring which holds the inner shaft into the gearbox and the O/S is held in with the bearing on the O/S of the engine. You would just need the O/S AWD driveshaft as it is thinner where it goes through the angle gear case.

think Colin has the bits coming, he has plenty of options for drive now, its going to be an interesting winter project, then going by the speed the bonnet is coming on, he'll have it all finish ed before winter

Mot is due in November & hopefully I will of fitted my prop by then to see if the awd works. Depending on the overall cost depends on if I keep it really. I'll probably keep a few choice parts for my next project.
The exhaust won't be one of those parts. I'm really hoping it flys through & the awd proves myself & every doubter wrong.
