Is is possible to make the 12v cigarette lighter socket live all the time?

    As per title.
The one in MissB's 2002 Euro3 S60 D5 is only live with the ignition, it would be handy for her if it could be made live all the time.

    Thank you in advance

yes it is, you just need to get to the back of the socket & replace the live wire which will be ignition fed with a (fused) wire direct from the battery. Make sure that you insulate the old wire so it won't touch anything else as it'll still be live off the ignition

BT's cigeratte lighter sockets i've put on a switch so they can be ignition or permanent

Ah right, as simple as that.

    Cheers Pedro

Edit: and that won't throw up any hissy fits or fault codes?

    Excellent, thanks.

That was my concern...that doing it the old fashion way might stop the Airbag, brakes or worse.... the stereo! working

with nothing in the socket the circuit isn't made anyway so it can't monitor it, & feeding it directly from the battery again bypasses all the computer. At worst it might be switched off both live & earth so might need to connect the other wire from the socket to a good earth on the car as well as the live from the battery

If you have a socket in the rear of the car, that'll not only be permanently live but when you plug something into it, you get a "12V rear in use" message on the screen.

Is it possible that this is a function that can be modified via Dice/Vida?

Not that I'm bothered but you can control pretty much every other electrical function via software, maybe there's something for the fag lighter

Have you done the hold the read button and tap the foglight button thing?

Bloody thing comes up with messages I don't even understand! although it keeps moaning about the audio system having a fault - good trick as it was never fitted with one lmao.

hmmm thinking out loud is the rear passenger one live all the time on S60s? didn't even think to try that!

I know the one in the boot of the XC90 is live all the time because that's where we plug the charger in.

You'll have to shell-out more than the price of a packet of quavers then
