    Turbo rebuild.

Just getting the parts together to recondition my turbo is there anything outside of the turbo I should replace?

I'm a bit confused on the oil return pipe seal, is it a gasket or as PFS list a rubber O ring?

    It's an O ring mate.

Gasket at the top mate, where the return pipe to turbo bolts upto, and the rubber O ring at the bottom of the pipe into the Block.

You will need large Circlip pliers to seperate the compresser housing from the CHRA

Some large and strong cir-clip pliers, absolute pain if you have a cheap pair, mine snapped!

Its very easy to rebuild be careful tacking the circlips out they will take your head off if they fly believe me I nearly lost an eye wear goggles. I have rebuilt a few turbos with ebay kits in the past but I stopped they work of a very small tolerances if there is any wear in the housing or shaft there's no point . I just get a melett chra for £214 from ebay the best quality by far. there made in the the uk also come balanced , you can get a 360º thrust bearing Kit for the tdo4 from melett. http://www.melett.com/literature/mel...rate-video.php

It's only the seals that have gone in mine, had no idea anything was wrong with it wasn't noisy no smoke what so ever until the mot and after 5 minutes filled the station with smoke and failed!!! passed on CO's though!

Looks like my last didn't arrive, do I have a 16T on my 98 V70R auto? so does that make it a super back?

I think your turbo is a 18t tdo4 and it would be super back

    I'll give NKK a ring.

All T's are superback all G's are flat back. I had a blocked(kinked) pcv pipe that built pressure in the system and was lucky enough that it forced oil out of the turbo seals, took me 2 rebuilds to figure out, as soon as I changed the pipe the smoking stopped, maybe worth a look
