Hello All,

I noticed a loudish bang when driving off my (sloped) drive a few months ago, got out, thinking I had hit something, but everything was ok. I don't use the car very much, it often sits on the drive for two weeks.

I drove it 400 plus miles this weekend, almost all on motorways, and have been aware of a rhythmic humming noise between 40 and 70 (it is most noticeable at 70ish but disappears after that, possibly due to road noise) - it's the kind of noise that a wheel bearing makes when it's on it's way out, but being aware of the crap handbrake shoe linings issue, I wondered if it would be that, plus the car (a 2006 S60R) has only done 52K and so I would be very surprised if the wheel bearings were on their way out (although it is possible of course).

Before I give it to Volvo, is there a relatively easy way to diagnose either of these problems, and are they fixable by a DIY mechanic?

Thanks in advance as always,
Nick0
