Well what a weekend that was, what with the first shake down run ending with a lift home on a recovery truck when we lost the clutch hydraulics, bled it all through again and test run ok. We set out for shakey the Saturday morning to set up camp and possibly get a couple of test runs in before the rest turn up to run on sunday. Unfortunately the clutch was still causing issues and was gone by Shrewsbury so we made an emergency pitstop at Claymore's. Another big thanks to Colin for his help and the donation of some clutch fluid and we were on the way again, only to lose the clutch twice more, the final time we tried another old bleeding method and final had something lasting ( never know so much air to be trapped in the system.

We got to Shakey set up camp but were too late to get a run that afternoon, so had a beer and food and waited for the morning. Front of the que and awaiting the rain to stop so we can run. The first 2 runs showed great promise but were let down by my driving and not being use to the new grip and change points as the car is way different on the strip now, the 3rd seem to have a boost issue and the forth ripped the exhaust downpipe apart, end of racing and a noisy, if somewhat thirsty run home but she got us home with no need for a recovery this time.

    Here's the broken bits

    and the temporary repair

I'm considering fitting a compensator to eliminate this happening again, but the stainless one I'm looking at is only available in 3" so will have to be sleeved down, but will be reuseable when I build myself a 3" system

Looking at that mate, are you sure it didn't come apart because it's past its best? Obviously engine movement played its part, but with new mounts, and a new flexi, I don't think it would have happened. Just my thoughts.

Agree with Steve ^^^^^^ it looks past its best, it would have failed anyway without the engine improvements, all you did is speed up its demise.

The downpipe was what was fitted when I got her 8 years ago, but had the just the flexi replaced 5 years ago (evident by my dodgy welding). Still may fit the compensator and will be improving the engine mounts over the next month

14.9 first run and 14.7 second run , the other 2 were not competitive because of issues with the cars running I.E. boost leak on the third run and missing exhaust on the forth. All in all it was showing promise but I broken it before I'd got used to how the power comes in and how the new found grip work out on the strip. More practice needed to get the runs right I think, as I'm definately not getting it all hooked up right yet

News flash...!!! the misfire at wot high rpm seems to be cured at last, with just a change of rotor arm, pretty sure that I changed it before and no improvement back then, but swapped it today and the misfire has vanished at wot.

Thanks to the op that put up a thread re. rotor arm/misfire recently as this jogged me into looking again at the simple bits, instead of over thinking the problem.

ok 2 runs in and the misbehaviour has started again, totally frying my brain now, going to have to waste money on new parts not knowing if the problem will be cured, I absolutely hate that, I would spend the cash instantly if I knew it was the cure, but with 3 other volvos here all deserving money spent on them I am loathed to spend money on unnecessary parts, but the issue doesn't seem as bad, so more road testing tomorrow before I make a decision on new parts, totally peeing me of now as this issue started a york last year and I've not got to the bottom of it yet, stage 0, yes it has crossed my mind but renewing anything will not pin point the failed part, I've already swapped out everything I can thing of for know good items to try and pin point the issue, to no avail .....

Get that ecu station setup so we can get the datalogging map on it and see some logs, see if we can identify the conditions it misfires under

I'm on it, just can't find the ecu connectors anywhere here, starting to think I've given them away to someone, will get new ones tomorrow and a new obd2 socket ( as I gave that away to some one I need ) when passing suitable breakers on my journeys into north wales in the morning, connection will be made and you will be first to know when I succeed in this task. I wil also be on the look out for a spare 4.4 ecu if the price is right, if not I will consider buying another T-5 to break to get what I want...

Oooh it's been a while since the last update and no pictures of what has been done last time, so a couple here of the new home made rip and maf to turbo piping, those who attended york will have already seen this and liked it ( it would be even better with a bit more practice tig welding thin walled tube, but time was against me there), one especially (Mr Sideways) who ran off with the rip pipe, whilst I was changing the fuel pressure reg to a 3.8bar one to see if this made any difference and to compensate for the improved flow on the intake pipe, we came away from york with a .2 improvement on my personal best (now 14.3 on a 15g). Still have the oil cooler to fit this winter and the pcv delete and oil catch tank to fit. Also the dump valve is now going to be changed to the re-circ type, so the new intake already needs modifying, as I had not planned this when I designed it and fitted the spigots for the various pipes. The whole cost for the rip and intake pipes including the silicone couplers for each end and all the mikalor clamps came in at about £125 with just a little time require cutting and welding the pipes, so a massive saving over the others being offered of late and make in nice shiny stainless steel.

Also the engine stabilizer and bracketing as been installed (it still needs paint though) and is utilising the original tailgate strut mounts, although modified to suit. This also doubles up to replace the missing bolt and sleeve from the power steering bracket, that has never been there from the day I bought the car some eight years ago.

Does look good, and Adrian was most modest when saying that his welds were crap.
Hell, they hold pressure, that's all that matters. They looked pretty good imo.

Lol, yeah it was only once I'd ran off with it that I realised I'd need the other section for it to work!

Thank you, but it will now require an extra spigot for the dv recirculation (when it arrives, so real no rush on this), but I'll do the same as the other spigots and have a bspp threaded fitting welded on and use a 90deg union off of that to connect to, hopefully the other unions will gain nice braided hoses to them over time....

What other section would you need, I was thinking they were the same or am I thinking of the wrong car?? As far as the welds go, I only say there crap as far as they could look a little nicer, but that's just me being fussy they do what they're meant to so design brief achieved....

As Colin has mentioned about the pcv, it is there for my planned exit from the new catch tank that will replace the pcv, currently venting to the atmosphere via the little filter picture'd by the turbo, but nicely spotted Rob, not much gets passed you

Mine still has standard IC pipework, Ade.
I'd need the pipe from the bottom of the 'cooler to throttle, or it would just blow all my boost out all over the front of my engine!
